I had heard so much about this ' gem' and was really looking forward to playing it. What a let down! The greens had recently been sanded by the looks of it, were very slow! The bunkers had very little sand in them which made them difficult to play out of. All the par 3 holes, we had to tee off of mats! Very disappointing indeed.

This course is a links 9 miles from the sea, unusual! It reminded me of the sandbelt courses in Vic, Australia.
18outstanding holes, great greens & fierce bunkers.
Clubhouse has a 1950s feel (the decor & dress code), full of character.

We Played Ganton 3 weeks ago and we was so impressed with the course definitely deserve's to be in the top 100 courses. Tee boxes are kept in excellent condition and the greens absolutely perfect fast but playable. The club house is great and the pro shop staff very helpful. Cannot fault this excellent golf club that as retained its traditions and values.

One of the country's outstanding golf courses ~ long enough and sufficient to challenge golfers of all abilities. The welcome in both the Pro's shop and, particularly in the clubhouse was excellent. A must if you enjoy great golf.

I came and played before lockdown.(late review) Nice greens, great view however ..... booked in for breakfast at 8 as we was teeing off at 830. Food was late and average. No tomato’s or black pudding on breakfast, very disappointing. When we came in I have a Welsh rarebit it was just cheese on toast no egg ! Also the Young lady on the bar was extremely rude! No social distancing however plenty of sanitisers. Will come back but only to play golf

Great layout, great bunkers (some of which are scarily deep), very friendly welcome from both the staff and members. Good deal staying in theor dormy house for B&B, and playing 2 rounds of golf.

Played this course today on a winter deal. This is a genuine must play experience, I am an avid club golfer (11hcp) and this course is a tough test indeed, especially trying to avoid the many, gigantic and cavernous natural looking bunkers which i seemed to take a good close look from most of them. This has been a really wet winter, but this course was as dry and springy underfoot as most courses are in summer. It played tough, but standing on nearly every tee box, there was a WOW. I would like to add special thanks to the very friendly and helpful young pro, who, after completing our round, allowed us to play several more holes . I was definitely made to eat my pre-concieved thoughts that this club might be a little "stuck up". Don't get me wrong, this place has high standards and a massive sense of tradition,But we were greeted with a genuine warm welcome, then a lovely bacon and sausage butty,

Thank you for your positive comments, I am delighted you enjoyed your visit to Ganton.
I agree that we have a great winter course at Ganton, mainly due to being based on sand; we drain so well.
We hope to see you back on the fairways in the near future - try to avoid the bunkers next time!

Tough course ,not for the inexperienced, Lovely setting very warm welcome from the staff and members.Greens tricky but very true and fair

I agree, our Championship course is a good challenge for all who play.
A feature of the course is the steep and large bunker complex's; my tip - keep out of them!
Hope to see you at Ganton again in the future.

Amazing course, in fact the best we have played in many years. Bunkers were challenging but that’s what made it enjoyable. Wanted to enjoy a pint and a wander around in the clubhouse to be greeted by a bar man that was more concerned about closing the bar and scrolling his phone than serving his customers. Won’t be letting this bad in house experience stop us visiting again soon.

Ganton is a fantastic course: best in Yorkshire and a treat to play. It picks out any weakness in your game and can destroy you if you let it play with your mind. A challenge in every way; a 5* rating!
That’s the good bit. In today’s busy life fast lane and the sport crying out for youngsters to join this brilliant sport, the club rule of having to wear knee length socks both inside the clubhouse and out is farcical, archaic and quite ridiculous. ZERO points Ganton for being stuck in a time warp, a huge disappointment!
A few members (even one on the committee) expressed embarrassment at this state of affairs; having experimented in the recent past with ankle socks, a few “old farts” apparently have had their way and forced the club to re-instate long socks. The will of a few against the sense of the many prevails. When will clubs realise that they must stop thinking of the now and look beyond into the future?
It is noted women do not have to adhere to this rule. A sexist position adopted by the club hierarchy it seems, not to mention a case of direct and indirect sex discrimination as well as a clear breach of the Equality Act
