We went to the Living Rainforest as a school trip. Here are some of our reviews:
On the 28th of February me and my class visited The Living Rainforest. It had over 800 species of animals and plants. My favourite animals were Edwin the toucan, the poison dart frogs, Harry the armadillo and the stick insects. I learned that the girl stick insects live for 18 years and boys live for 9 years. I enjoyed it when we saw the sloth! I learned so much and I can't wait to go again! - C
Two days ago we went to The Living Rainforest and it was amazing! Some of the animals looked like the king of the enclosure like the iguana. My favourite animals were Cinnamon the sloth, Harry the armadillo and the goeldi's monkeys. Cinnamon was one of my favourites because sloths are so slow that they grow moss on them. The tour guide was very nice. We will definitely visit again very soon. - S
On Wednesday this week my class visited the LR which stands for Living Rainforest. It was fun! I was ecstatic. The best bits were the facts and some of the animals like the caimans, Luigi the hair lifting bird, Tiny the tarantula, the mudskippers, the poison dart frogs and Cinnamon the sloth. I learned lots of facts! I enjoyed learning why poison dart frogs are poisonous. It is because they eat poisonous ants. Our tour guide knew everything and her name was Anita. If you are reading this, get a tour of the Living Rainforest! - L

Staff was friendly. It was a bit short but if you take it slowly and watch all the animals for a minute or two it will make it more worthwhile. I wouldnt recommend it as a few hours trip. The tour guide was at the entrance at the beginning so they helped find a leaf and stick insect. But when we had trouble finding a peticular animal they was no staff about in the greenhouses. The map was confusing because it wasnt clear enough if you have already been in there. There was no signage to the other greenhouses. They have so much potential, with how popular the living rainforest is they could expand it. Its a shame that they didnt mention feeding times when you arrived. And the monkeys they should of had a 360 viewing point since they was at the back of the enclosure. They didnt have much in the giftshop. And i wanted to make my own bracelet but they didnt restock the animal charms. The gift shop items was expensive. It was over £13 for 2 items. £10 for a small teddy where you can find it cheaper anywhere else. And then there was no bell to ring or cameras in the gift shop to call to serve us and no way of knowing that we was there and we waited 15 minutes until we grabbed someone from outside the giftshop. They seen us entering to browse but the cashier just left. Things could be easily stolen. They need better staffing and to cut the prices down. I would reccomend only going once. And for what it offers £14 is expensive. I understand you are giving some of the money to a orginization. Should of been £8.

Lovely place to go with children and has a nice cafe and play park. Very tiny car park though which gets very muddy in the overflow if it’s rained.
We were there a few hours as used the park and cafe but the rainforest itself can be got round in an hour, it’s not that big.
Lovely afternoon out, small but good value for money and educational.

We enjoyed walking around the long-established and enclosed ‘rainforest’ and seeing a range of exotic creatures, from large stick-insects to sloths and tarantulas. There were also free-roaming creatures.
The staff were enthusiastic and engaging.

Overpriced for what they have to offer, which even at a slow pace will take less than an hour. Not a great deal to see and the place overall looks tired and somewhat neglected. Shame as it has potential. Will not be revisiting.

Disappointing visit yesterday.
The car park was like a quagmire. The toilets were filthy (not just from the car park mud). The playground was also very muddy.
Despite the timed entry it was very slow moving inside and our children found that frustrating. More labels for the interesting plants please. The centre feels a bit uncared for. Could be so much more.
We felt it was just too pricey for 1 -2 hours entertainment.

This is quite a small attraction worth a visit as it is unique and ideal for wet weather days. A little expensive as it is struggling to pay its heating costs and there seem to be less animals than a few years ago.

My grandchildren really loved their visit today, we spent about 3 hours in total, looking around then trying to complete their age-related activity packs. The staff were so knowledgeable and helpful, even the cafe staff made me a tasty gluten free sandwich.

Lovely to have the birds flying around you. Very knowledgeable staff. Flora and Fauna all well looked after. The information boards are clear and helpful. Parking may be a problem, but to help, entry is timed (although you can spend as long as you like there once in). Nice cafe and gift shop. We stayed at the Living Rainforest for just under 2 hours and enjoyed it very much.

Expensive and disorganised. This is one large space with a small collection of animals and plants. The half term activities were underwhelming. Toilets were filthy and food options unhealthy. In the end we made the decision to leave as the animal feeding activity and the tours were not taking place as scheduled.

We have butterflies throughout the year however the numbers and activity of the butterflies will increase in the warmer weather over the summer months. There are also higher numbers over the school holidays

Hi,
The Living Rainforest near Newbury in Berkshire is an educational charity as well as a popular ecological visitor attraction. It welcomes over 75,000 visitors a year and is home to 700 species of plants and animals. The centre offers visitors an opportunity to experience a living tropical rainforest, including free-ranging birds, reptiles and butterflies. We have a café that sells tea's, Coffee, excellent Gutin free, baguettes etc but there is not a bar.

How long would you spend there? I have a 3.5 year old.

Hi,
The Living Rainforest is open 7 days a week - During the school term period it can get quite busy between 10.30 - 2.00pm with school trips.
On school holidays and weekends we offer a wider range of activities and free guided tours. The visit time will vary but is usually one and a half to two and a half hours (Longer in the summer with play area being warmer). We also have a café serving hot and cold food.
The ticket is an annual ticket so you can come back throughout the year and see the seasons change inside the glasshouses!

Are there butterflies at the moment? (late Oct)

Hi,
We are trying to move the butterflies from the main Amazonica House and migrate them across to the small Islands Exhibit. So yes there are some caterpillars and butterflies but the numbers are low. The numbers will increase in the coming months

Does anybody know whether the crocodile/alligator is back from it's "breeding program" in Europe? Only ask as it's my (weird) granddaughter's favourite 😃

Hi,
No we do not anticipate its return for a while. We do have a Philippines water monitor. In the long term we will be getting further crocodilian in but that will be several years away.
By Christmas we will have our snake exhibit up and running with our baby green tree boa
