Great fossil hunting trip, Huxley was very kind, helpful and knowledgeable. We got some great finds and would definitely go on another tour if we go back to the Isle of Wight again. Highly recommend!

Huxley was just a delight to have a fossil tour with on Brook Chine beach this week! Ours kids loved it and he was the embodiment of true love for fossils and dinosaurs. He was engaged, animated and all about providing a fun experience. Highly recommend a tour with him. Thanks again!

A really informative trip, by super knowledgeable guide Huxley. Everyone really enjoyed it and found lots of treasures.
Suitable for all ages, our party ranged from 13-80 years old.
Even the rain didn’t dampen the experience!

We had a lovely visit good talks on the local areas and types of fossils to expect . We all thoroughly enjoyed hunting for fossils and what look for & Huxley helped when we weren’t sure.

Had an amazing time during the fossil hunting, Huxley (our leader) was so fun, very engaging and knowledgeable, helped us find loads of fossils, definitely recommend this experience

Totally excellent afternoon fossil hunting with Huxley !
SO knowledgeable, helpful, funny, enthusiastic, and so good with all the kids - and the adults too. Learnt a lot in 2 hours and now know what to look for when fossil hunting.
If you want to find fossils on the Island’s ‘Dinosaur Beach’ I would clearly
RECOMMEND HUXLEY ! !

Fantastic family trip! Huxley (tour leader) is funny, engaging and really knowledgeable. We learnt a lot and found some really interesting fossils. We would recommend this as a great way to spend an afternoon on the IOW.

Myself and my 11 year old son went on one of the fossil hunting trips. Our guide James was very knowledgeable and informative, at the start of the trip he passed around some samples that had come from the beach we were going to be looking for fossils on. This was great because not only do you understand what to look for but also just builds the excitement. Safe to say that at the end of the 2 hours you aren’t disappointed you leave with fossils that you find, James also shows you the dinosaur footprint casts dotted along the beach. All in all outstanding value for money and if you get James as your guide you won’t be disappointed ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Really great way to spend a summer morning. Huxley was extremely knowledgeable, passionate and patient. He gave us some really useful tips and examples for the kids to use when fossil hunting- my son even found a rare fossil. Excellent value for money. Would highly recommend.

What an amazing way to spend two hours, we came away brimming with information.
Jenny kindly arranged for Martin to guide us. The experience was booked a surprise for our friends from America who already had an interest in fossil hunting. They were amazed at what we found, together with Martin’s enthusiasm & wealth of knowledge that he shared willingly with us.
The geology of such a small island was an eye opener to us all. A highlight of our holiday.
Would recommend it to anyone with a passing interest on the subject.

No need to book a fossil hunting trip as they are all over the place, the beach is free and best when those large groups are not there, buses on the island are good to Blackgang Chine, from here you can get a bus to Freshwater Bay and get off at the Pearl shop to see Princess Diana`s stunning pearl dress and have a great lunch in the cafeteria, then a hop on a bus towards Freshwater Bay and hop off at the first car park past Brook village Rd.from here it is a good walk to the point where all the fossils are 30 mins - it is well worth it and you will get great photos
The place is the point at Brook Bay and you want low tide

If you're a novice and haven't a clue about fossils, then booking the tour is a great idea. The guide was very knowledgeable and I found myself shushing by Child so I could be educated. Once you know what your looking for, exploring the island on your own is easily done.

How would we get there from the mainland and be transported to this area? Is there local bus service? We would like to include the Isle of Wight and especially the fossil hunting if possible but only have two days to include it in our itinerary. Thinking around the first of July.

Hi,
From the mainland you would have to get a ferry on to the Island. If you are coming in a car, we can provide directions to our trip localities, if you are coming on foot, there is a bus service. You would have to check the Southern Vectis website for their timetables and fees.

Hi - Me and my husband would love to do a fossil hunt. We will be on holiday on the Isle of Wight, the first two weeks of August. Is this possible and do we need to book, please ?

Hi Jan,
We will be running fossil hunting trips everyday in August. We always run our trips on the low tide so times vary on a daily basis. Places are limited on the trips so we do recommend booking in advance. We are already taking bookings for August.
