‪The Gardens are lovely. The tea room service is atrocious. After being seen to a table we waited 45minutes, watching 3 other tables being served before us, despite having arrived and ordered before them. Finally we went to the bar to find out what was happening, only for them to tell us that they’d lost our order. We left. The fact that nobody came to check on us despite the fact we’d been waiting without any menus and were clearly looking around for some service. If I could give less than 1 star I would.‬

‪So much potential here, but an amazing lack of flowers - only seemed to have shrubs and lots of grass - definitely missed a trick to beautify the park‬

‪Lovely gardens, great park for children and lots going on. Had a picnic in the park which was lovely. Very central for all areas of the town. Well done Buxton.‬

‪I did a guided live-streamed walking tour of Buxton town with Ian from Heygo. Ian informed us that Buxton is a spa town in the Borough of High Peak in Derbyshire. It is England's highest market town at some 1,000 feet. We started at The Slopes which faces the Cresent. The paths through the trees on the Slopes form a complete circle with the Cresent. The Cresent was built in 1784 to provide accommodation for visitors attracted to the town by the health-giving Spa. It was designed by John Carr to rival the Royal Crescent at Bath. We walked down to the Old Hall Hotel which was originally built by the 6th Earl of Shrewsbury and housed the captive Mary, Queen of Scots, who visited a number of times for the spa water.
We also peeped into the Pump Room which is now a Visitor Centre. Ian refilled his water bottle at the prominent St Ann's Well which is constantly fed with spring water at a temperature of 27.5° Centigrade and stands next to the Pump Room.
Soon we reached the Cavendish Arcade which was originally designed as a thermal bath in 1854. It is now a shopping arcade. It features the original plunge
bath and the interior still has most of its Minton tiling and a striking glass barrel
vaulted ceiling. Ian also pointed out the sheltered walkway outside the arcade and showed us a pharmacy which still retains its original structure.
Walking down Station Road, we saw the great Fan Window by Joseph Paxton. It is the only one left of the two windows that stood at the ends of the Railway Stations. We also walked to Bridge Street to see the old building there in front of the Viaduct.
On the way back to town, Ian pointed out the Palace Hotel and the Dome. The Dome, with a diameter of 46 metres, was built by Robert Rippon Duke in 1882 for the
Royal Devonshire Hospital. Palace Hotel. completed in 1868, was one of a number of grand hotels built for the numerous Spa visitors.
Ian showed us an original ‘Penfold’ Victorian Post Box installed in 1867 and it is one
of only three still in use.
Before arriving at the Pavilion Gardens, we saw Buxton Opera House which was designed by Frank Matcham. It was opened in 1903 and restored in 1979. The Octagon, designed by Robert Rippon Duke, was opened in 1876 and recently restored.
We ended our tour at the imposing Bandstand and River Wye flows through the Pavilion Gardens.‬

‪Living in Buxton I can honestly say Buxton park is one of the worse parks I have ever visited. Canadian geese were introduced to the park during its renovation several years ago and now the sheer amount of poop that cakes the pavements and grass is completely disgusting and unacceptable. Young children run and play on the swings and slides surrounded by goose poop, I cannot stress how much there is. As for play equipment young children (1-3) have an enclosed toddler play area with a climbing frame and slide with swings and a roundabout near by. Older children (4+) on the other hand are very poorly catered for having only one ridiculous climbing frame, a zip wire and those nonsensical gym equipment type apparatus to occupie themselves with. With so many better parks nearby I recommend avoid Buxton park if you have children.‬

‪Lovely gardens to walk around. We had a takeaway cuppa from the cafe and listened to music from the bandstand. We also visited the conservatory and the art gallery/gift shop. There were model boats on the lake earlier in the morning to look at too.‬
