We popped in with the kids on a non-open day expecting to just walk round the station and visit the shop. There were plenty of staff (I'm guessing mainly volunteers) around the car park, and when we asked if the museum and steam train shed were open he said "Well, not really, but I'll show you round".
He showed us into the museum part, and then another chap took over over and gave us a very informative chat on the signalling control panel they are currently restoring, which will be interactive (so you can control trains on a model railway track) by next Summer.
Then the first chap caught us leaving and took us for a tour of train shed, where we chatted to a few of the people working on the steam trains !
Great experience for us and the kids (6 & 8), but obviously could be a bit hit and miss at the moment - next Summer it should be fantastic.

Went to the Santa Special with my 5 year old and 18 month old which included a festive ride on a steam train and visit to Santas grotto with presents. There was Christmas music, snow, bubbles and lots of decorations so much fun for everyone! We all had such a lovely time, tea and sausage rolls too. All run by lovely volunteers who are so cheery and helpful. Miniature railway is great too, all lovingly crafted and such attention to detail. Great shop and good prices. Thanks to all for a lovely time. Definitely be back next year. Such good old fashioned fun designed for all families.

I had a great Driver Experience Day with the crew and volunteers on this charming little railway. An early start (7 am) and a warm welcome. A safety brief and then an introduction to my steam locomotive for the day, 'Lord Fisher'. The crew couldn't have been more helpful. Hands on experience as we 'oiled round' with the loco 'over the pit' and an explanation of the controls. Then off for breakfast (bacon & sausage butties). Preparation complete, the moment I'd been looking forward too; driving 'Lord Fisher' up and down their branch line. The sound of this locomotive working hard pulling its train, the shrill of its whistle and the aroma of steam and hot oil will long-live in my memory. So happy that my family and friends could share my day too, travelling as passengers. A 'spin' on their turntable, with me winding the handles furiously and several more journeys later, I'd completed my Driver Experience....and what a wonderful day!!! Many thanks to all.

So glad we visited! We visited for a steam day with our train mad toddler. A lovely little site with lots to see and do. A short ride on a real steam train as well as a miniature steam train, a model railway to view as well as lots of interesting pieces of history and signalling demonstration. Friendly and enthusiastic volunteers. Lovely day out

Great day out with young children. We visited on a model railway exhibition day which added to the variety of things to look out.

Popped along to the model railway event and had a great time with my 4-year-old. Had a ride on the miniature railway, ride in the guard van on the steam train and a look round the exhibits. Friendly staff and will be back especially as it’s so easy to arrive by train.

Visited Santa last weekend, great fun and a ride on a steam train, our 3 year old was thrilled, and so was the 70 year old!! Great value.

it was a great afternoon out for rail fans big and small. we all loved riding behind lord fisher and the miniture class 37 and seeing the model railway. we were all in awe of the turntable demonstration. the cafe has some amazingly taste grub at amazing prices!! it will be great too see how the panel box display develops. and if they ever manage to get the extension in place it will certainly make an even bigger experience. thanks

Fantastic time at the Model Railway day. My 3 year old boy was in heaven unlimited train rides and models. Nice little play area. The people running the place were all so incredibly friendly and helpful 😃. Best £8 I've spent in a long time.

We attended today (myself and 2 boys 4 & 7).
It was a model railway day as well as the usual steam train and miniature engine running.
We arrived at about midday and were still there at 4.30!
I think all the staff are volunteers, and it is clear to see that they all love it! Very friendly, knowledgeable and patient with the boys' million questions about engines!
Had a couple of rides in the brake van up the short private line(1/3rd mile, I think) being pulled by the steam locomotive "Lord Fisher".
Also had a couple of trips on the miniature engine which has a track set up in the car park and run by a local club.
The cafeteria is run by a lovely team of volunteers and has a good range of pasties, sausage rolls, sandwiches, bacon rolls etc, and you can also pay by card.
A well stocked small shop with something for everyone.
Highly recommend Yeovil Railway Centre if you're in the area and looking to spend a couple of hours for just a few pounds entry.

Hi. Apologies if this is too late - busy at the Centre! Well behaved dogs on leads are welcome on our Trains Days (except in the cafe and children's play area). There are loud noises and movement which may upset some dogs. If our coach is in operation please we ask that dogs remain on the floor. Paul
