i took my mum and dad there a few weeks ago, loved the painting exhibition and history of the local area. Had food in the café which was tasty and not over priced. Staff were lovely and helpful

We went today to see the Art Summer Exhibition. The art we did see was really good and interesting but £6 each to get in??!!!! No wonder despite Lymington generally being so busy today we were the only ones in the exhibition.
The ladies tried to insist that we visit the museum too when we queried the price and we were not interested, only wanted to see the art of exhibition as had lots of other places we wanted to go in Lymington but there is not a separate price for this which seems ridiculous. It was so small that I feel free entry (hoping people spend money in shop or cafe) or £1 or £2 tops is all that is appropriate. Whoever makes this pricing decision is completely out of touch with what people can and cannot afford, and that it is acceptable to charge people so much to go into such a small local exhibition. Hence the complete lack of customers at a time that outside in the High Street there were so many people. Shame.

Called in today to view the Lymington High Street exhibition- past, present and future. So many interesting facts, pictures and anecdotes that go unnoticed in everyday life in this lovely town of ours.
Exhibition is just on for a matter of weeks but sincerely hope a permanent site will be made for this important documentation of Lymington.
This little gem of a museum with its regular exhibitions is well worth a couple of hours of your time.

Only small, but decent enough. The history side has a lot of interesting stuff but it does feel a little scattered. Lots of little interactive stuff for the kiddies, and being a big kid myself I did have go on the coin rubbing station!
The art gallery at the moment is an really nice embroidery collection, I’ll admit some of it goes over my head but it was nice to walk round.
Cafe has a nice selection of cakes and teas

Made a detour on our way home from Dorset to visit the 62 Group textile art exhibition, which was very good, but temporary. The permanent exhibits were fine, but it is not a big museum, so probably worth a visit primarily to see whatever the current temporary exhibition is. We enjoyed our lunch in the cafe.

We popped in to get a local map from Tourist Information and found a gem. The museum is lovely, a small space filled with well displayed interesting exhibits that bring the local history alive, but not as much as the wonderful guide who delighted us with his stories and shared memories. What a treat. The art gallery was interesting and the shop full of high quality beautiful things. We were so impressed with everything and the extremely friendly, helpful and well informed staff.
We had a coffee and cake which was also excellent and great service.
If I lived locally, I would visit often and enjoy all their exhibitions.

Was looking forward to visiting this museum. Most reviews commenting on cafe.
I take my time viewing exhibits and reading information, visit over in 30minutes. The museum is in one small room some interesting exhibits. Would I recommend this museum probably not was disappointed.

We encountered an afternoon of dreary weather so we decided to do an indoor activity. The museum is interesting - but the current art exhibition is something else! It’s based around things that are “eerie” and there are some very interesting artworks. The accompanying narrative about each piece further set the scene. We really enjoyed it - really worth a visit!
The gift shop also has lots of lovely stationery and art and I got some nice Christmas gifts.
Coffee shop is great too.

Our second visit to St Barbe and was so impressed, again, I had to leave a review. Yes, it's small, but small can be good... today's exhibition was very well curated, with beautiful artworks and great commentary. Eerie art. Really loved it. We've also eaten twice now at the cafe - really worth a visit too. As two vegetarians, we are always very happy to see something more than a mozzarella and pesto panini, and this cafe delivers. Today it was spicy lentil soup and a mushroom and black bean "sos" roll, both homemade. Would go out of our way to visit.

Unless you are a child keen on colouring within the lines, I fail to see the attraction.
Even 9 year old me would have resented spending the £6,
I was so dumbfounded that I enlisted the help of a total stranger in order to confirm that I had not missed rooms. To his hilarity, I hadn’t.
Maybe previous reviewers managed to walk through the st barbe equivalent of the Narnia wardrobe?
The cafe is waaaaay better that the “art” gallery which consisted of dead stuffed animals.
Or maybe I don’t understand art.
Or may be I’m a snobbish townie,
