Visited Belton House for the first time today even though we are long term National Trust members and visited over a hundred of their properties. Can't believe some of the negative reviews, The house itself was lovely with a magnificent staircase leading to the upper floor, the guides on duty were extremely knowledgeable and helpful. The gardens were extensive extending as far as the eye could see. For children there was a large indoor play area, and a huge outdoor one. We had a good long ride on the miniature railway, which cost £2,00pp, There was a large extensive second hand bookshop, nice cafe and shop. Behind the main house, a short walk though the garden was a fountain and large orangery. Highly recommended, especially if you are a NT member.

We spent a couple of hours at the amazing adventure play area. Absolutely massive and things for all ages. We also had a little play in the play cafe, but more suited to under 5s. The gift shop and bookshop were nice. We didn’t actually go in the house (don’t trust my kids!) but had a nose out the front and enjoyed the deer.

We only visited the playground as a stop on the way to somewhere and it was lovely. The miniature railway is great and cheap compared to others at £1.50 for children and £2 for adults and it’s quite a long ride. If you go on that first it gives you an idea of what’s in the playground. Playground great with varied equipment for all ages, although as usual some parents are very irresponsible and don’t supervise their children resulting in them pushing and shoving younger children out the way to get past and asking strangers to help them as no parent in sight. Wish we had stayed longer as it was a really good playground.

A cracking visit. It was the first hot Sunday of the year and incredibly busy so any cracks would have shown, but staff and volunteers were unfailingly happy and polite. Even at what must have been near peak capacity the size of Belton is such that it didn’t feel crowded. Had both lunch and an afternoon cake stop, both lovely, no problems finding seating. Lovely selection in the gift shop, I spent £65!
Dog friendly, she was allowed in the secondhand book shop and gift shop which was lovely as my husband and I could browse together rather than doing shifts.
The house is beautiful, the gardens and parkland well tended, and the orangery interesting.
My husband lost his phone which was spotted by a gardener and dealt with very efficiently and courteously.

Well presented house, enjoyable gardens, nice walks, amazing views, lovely cafe, helpful and knowledgeable staff. Bluebells are in full bloom right now. Car park is in need of improvement.

Very nice grounds. Poor coffee, extra hot requested but when delivered just warm. Queried this and was informed it was extra hot. Unbelievable.

The formal gardens were well laid out and the tulips were a wonderful sight. There were a variety of other flowers out with shrubs and bushes in bloom. The grounds are extensive and good for walks and exercises. The tea room had a range of food and drinks and the bookshop one of the best we have encountered on a NT site.
The downside was trying to work out whether the house was open or not. It wasnt which was a disappoinment. I find that the handbook and website are not very helpful in this respect.

Well they can stick their park. Pay a fee to just walk around the park for a short dog walk and visit to the cafe. No thanks.
They should make it clearer on the website that you have to pay for entry to everything.
Went Wyndham Park instead. Free to park and walk dogs. Very pleasant.

Not been here for many years, but as we are NT members, we went for a lunch and look round. The gardens are not massive, but there is more than enough to walk around with the gardens, orangery and small lake, plus the lovely old church (not part of NT).
The house itself staffed with enthusiastic staff who are only too eager to give you information on the history of the house and area.
There is also a great play area for kids (suggest 3 +), a miniature train ride (small extra cost) and a snack / icecream kiosk. There is a well stocked cafe for the house too, so all in all, a lovely long afternoon out.
We were there for 4 hours, but with additional playtime for kids it can be a full day.

The house is very impressive from the outside and the estate as a whole really is worth seeing. It isn't anything, at first glance, that you can't find in Georgian estates up and down the UK. And historically speaking, there isn't actually anything really of note. No famous people lived here, no historical events and the architecture, whilst impressive, is hardly rare.
But, it is a truly excellent example of a *complete* Georgian estate that is remarkably good condition.
Pretty much every similar estate is either in a state of disrepair, has has a lot of the buildings demolished etc. This place really gives you a feel as what a Georgian estate, as a whole was like.
There are facilities throughout and plenty to dop, from playgrounds to a ride on train and good eating/drinking options. You could easily spend a whole day here with the family, weather permitting.
But, a couple of minor niggles. The adventure playground, whilst probably amazing for 10yr olds is a bit dodgy for under 5s. So many things very easy to fall off but a bit too high for that to be OK. Our 3yr old needed constant watching as he would climb on stuff then repeatedly be facing the risk of a 6-10ft+ drop onto gravel.
Not saying it's dangerous. But, very hard to let younger kids just do their own thing. Also, a bizarre lack of bins throughout the estate, Plenty around the café but once out away from the housel, none. Looked for ages for one without success.

No you have to pay unless you are NT members. You have to book a day in advance but they may let you pay on the day being a weekday. Loads of parking.
I am disabled and use a mobility scooter, is the grounds suitable and any blue badge parking please

Can Motorhomes access the Car Park?

Yes, there are no low clearances and although not wide, the entry road should take a motorhome comfortably.

The person who cokplained about the food at Belton House. should have gone across the road to Belton Garden Centre where the food and service is excellent.
