My daughter and i visited this lovely place, well signposted, the cafe is cosy comfortable and the lovely ladies who are volunteers are so nice. We had tea and scones, the scones are delicious. We walked around the water mill, very picturesque place and can well recommend a visit here

What a find.. Driven passed the sign for many years.. Always wanted to know what was there.. Now I know and I will be back for certain. Only downside is Parking very limited.. But just accross the road from the entrance is a small dead end road we parked there and only couple minutes walk down gravel road track.
Lovely quiet place to have a short walk. Nice cuppa, Sunshine helped too

Hidden gem! What a beautiful, tranquil place. We were greeted with such a warm welcome from the team of volunteers who keep this place going,
It’s free entry to the mill & grounds, they operate on donations and revenue from the excellent tea room.
Tea room was brilliant, home made cakes, traditional sandwiches, and tea in tea cups! Excellent value too.
The milk & tea room is also dog friendly.
A lovely place to catch up, or to sit while the kids explore…..there is open water so younger children do need supervision.
Couldn’t recommend this place enough to kill an hour or two on a sunny day.

Free to visit, this place is good for the soul. Not sure why, maybe the gentle sound of water in the mill race, the tranquil gardens and surroundings to walk around, sketch, play or just to sit in and breathe. Maybe it's the friendly, enthusiastic, knowledgeable trustees and volunteers, the history or industrial heritage, or maybe, it's the damn fine home made cakes, scones, pies and sandwiches. Whatever it is I would encourage anyone to come and find out for themselves.
Check out the family activities, heritage days, info on the website
Also, forging/blacksmithing, woodworking/ fused glass courses bookable through Gateshead Skills.

We spent a lovely couple of hours at path head water mill on Friday the 22nd of April. Its such a peaceful and relaxing place with loads to photograph while having a pleasant stroll. You can also have a cup of tea there and a peice of cake if that takes your fancy. One of the trustees who's been there twenty years even showed us the waterwheel in motion which was a thrill. So much has been done to transform this wonderful place in such a short time. It's hard to believe this place is a stones through from Newcastle, we felt like we were in the middle of the countryside.

First visit to Pathhead water mill.
This 18th century Heritage site has been restored and the beautiful gardens and grounds kept on top of by volunteers. There are seats around the site to sit and enjoy the peacefulness. There are points of interest especially fun for children to find. The newly opened cafe is spacious with out door seating as well. Large cups of Pumphreys coffee enjoyed with some home made cake or scones available. Definitely recommend a visit.

Beautiful restored water mill with a newly opened tea room serving teas coffees homemade cakes and scones. The tea room is open Friday Saturday and Sunday 10:30 - 3:00 with seating inside and out. Cakes were all homemade and only £2 for a huge slice. Wonderful way to spend a relaxing hour or two catching up and just enjoying the peaceful surroundings. There is a nature scavenger hunt for the kids to do and loads of frogs and beets in the ponds. Dogs are welcome and the toilets are lovely and clean catering for people with mobility issues too.

Looked at the website to see if this attraction had reopened or not. The website mentioned the 2020 Heritage Open Days so I presumed that it had. On arrival, the gates were all closed and locked. The only notices said the mill was closed on a Monday and open Tuesday to Sunday. The visit date was a Sunday.
Spoke to someone who lived nearby that said you were lucky if you saw people at the Mill once a week (obviously can't confirm that as it was what they said) and that they didn't update the website (which I most certainly can confirm).
It does beggar belief that a tourist attraction cannot post a closure notice on their website and also at the venue itself. I am pleased I did not travel a long way to visit and instead went to the Land of Oak & Iron which isn't that far away and infinitely more welcoming (plus has a more accurate website).

You can walk to the mill from blaydon bus station however there is a bus stop at the bottom of summer hill next to Pumphreys coffee shop. From here you can walk up summer hill bank and the mill is at the top on the right hand side
