I looked at trip advisor and saw some great photos of this place so went today while biking in the area.
Firstly the place isn’t very well signposted but eventually found the purple signs and set off. It said that it’s a walking only trail but we were on holiday in the area on our push bikes and the place was very quiet so continued on them -thank goodness we didn’t walk. No word of a lie we could have been walking all day. The trail was vast and really really poor. We saw about 5 sculptures but were riding for over an hour.
Nothing like the pics on trip advisor. The Forest is beautiful in itself but don’t waste your time following the trail. Totally disappointed.

It’s a trail not a sprint, visited with my pooches and partner. Some striking installations, a real mix of solemnity, reflection, reverence and humour. Will definitely return. Car parking is a bit of a gamble so even with a bit of pace best to buy your ticket for more than 2 hours to avoid marching past every beautiful spectacle and instead appreciate the moment with each one.

Great place to visit if in the area. Steep in places but sculptures were amazing. Some better than others. Only marked it down for this reason as some are too far apart and walking wasn’t for everyone so trail not easily accessible for all.

Parking costs £5 (all day), otherwise the experience is free. (There are places to park for free if you are familiar with the area). We downloaded the map and information about each sculpture prior to our walk (as network signal is limited in the Forrest). We found the signage reasonably good and didn’t get lost once. There is plenty of seating around the trail and we took some soft drinks on our walk as the weather was surprisingly very good. Some of the trail is a little muddy so think about footwear. Lovely cafe by the car park and clean toilets. Would recommend.

The walk was lovely and quiet on a Monday in March .
However, the sculptures are really uninspiring. Some of them I wouldn’t even call sculptures.
There are issues with the the signposting in a couple of places. Markers missing .
Overall, enjoyed the spring day in the wood.

The walk was scenic with a variety of trees. The sculptures were interesting! Some were a bit non descript. And there was nothing to say what they were or what they represent. I liked the Grove of silence and of course, ‘cathedral’ the stained glass installation.

Enjoyed the walk but signage was missing. Walked for an hour so got almost half way round when signage disappeared. Didn’t take leaflet with us as print was too small to read without carrying reading glasses and initially signage seemed good. Due to signage issue we missed the correct turning and ended up back at the white gate. We then decided to just follow the short cut A back to the car park rather than retrace our steps. Last sign we saw said 400m to cafe but half an hour later we were totally lost - turned round and eventually found our way back, so the walk ended up being really stressful.

Poor signage, rubbish “sculptures”. Only redeeming factor is the Forest.
Better in summer with additional sculptures, but still not worth the hype.

On the final day of our visit to the Forest of Dean, we decided following the sculpture trail would prove a tranquil outing for our dog. We were wrong! After trudging along the path for about a mile and suddenly reaching a fork, we realised that the arrows pointing us on our way had all but disappeared. We were left with no other choice but to try three different routes, none of which prevailed. Meanwhile, the sculptures did not improve matters - in fact one of them appeared to be a poor recreation of an aztec tomb used for CITV's "temple run".
Just as we resolved to use what three words to be airlifted from the godforsaken trail, some fellow dog walkers pointed us in what they guessed was the right direction. The majesty of the forest was the trail's only saving grace, I only feel for the poor souls who witnessed us, exhausted, damp and starving, emerge from the bracken, weeping tears of joy at the prospect of recovering in the overpriced cafe.
If any readers are considering the Bear Grylls style challenge, I would recommend having a scouting award, a direct line to mountain rescue, or a lobotomy.
Prize for most pretentious sculpture goes to "the trees can talk" - they have to because the signage is so abysmal!

We thoroughly enjoyed an autumn walk through the forest, coming across the occasional sculpture along the way. Good value parking, decent toilets and cafe also available at the visitor centre.

Is there a pub serving lunch either at the beginning or end of the sculpture trail to accommodate about 20 people.

Due to surgery I can only walk about a mile. How far along the trail is the stained glass sculpture?

Hello, If you park in the Speech House Woodland Car Park as opposed to our main site at Beechenhurst you can walk under a mile to 'Cathedral' by Kevin Atherton. Unfortunately I am unable to post a map image here to help with the way finding but please do get in touch with me via our website and I can help by providing a clear route for you.

Thank you for your enquiry. The landscape of the Cannop Valley is steep and rough surfaced in places. We recommend you discuss your access requirements / queries with the Forestry Commission on the below contact:

Hi, there are lots of choices for places to eat and drink near to the Sculpture Trail.
Very close by in walking distance is the Speech House Hotel, in cycling distance the Rising Sun in Moseley Green, or the Woodman or Fountain Inns in nearby Parkend. Also highly recommended is the Miners Arms in Whitecroft. A little further afield you might enjoy the Inn at Penalt.
Good luck and we hope you enjoy your visit!
