I visited Wetherby Races recently and was meeting a friend there. When she arrived, she was visibly upset, when she reached the pay booths, she realised she had forgotten her debit card, and only had cash on her. When she tried to pay, she was given the third degree as to why she had not got her card, and was told in no uncertain terms if this happened again she would not be admitted. This is an 87 year old we are talking about. The pay policy card only or Eticket. She does not use the internet and does not normally carry her card to events in case she might lose it. Wetherby prides itself in telling you. We want every visitor to Wetherby Racecourse to enjoy a great day out and have a racing experience to remember. Well they certainly hit the mark this time with someone who has supported the course for over 75 years. I think they need to rethink the entrance as a number of older people will not use the internet and I am sure some may not have a bank card.

Superb racecourse. Very welcoming and friendly staff.. Good hospitality. Very clean and tidy all round. Excellent views from the stand and 1891 Bar.

The traffic trying to get into the racecourse on 26 Dec 2022 was horrendous. It took us 45 minutes to go 250 metres up the slip road off the A1. We bailed out and came back home at the roundabout by the service station. We were looking forward to the race meeting but the experience was very off putting.

Hands down the worst race day experience I have ever had, as a keen race goer and local to the track I'm embarrassed at the events offering and organisation, this is clear evidence why race going numbers are declining if this is what's on offer.
To start no management of traffic into or out of the venue, took over an hour to leave the carpark spending 40 mins stationary, clearly not enough stewards, and the ones they had, did not have a clue how to effectively filter traffic fairly in and out of the venue, cars driving everywhere.
Once you finally did get into the racecourse the the quality of the services on offer to the average race goer (food, drink, betting) is insufficient for the number of race goers, waiting close to 40mins for a warm drink and a further 30mins for somthing to eat. I've been to busier racecourses before on big festival days (York, Doncaster, Uttoxeter, Cheltenham etc) so I expected crowds but Wetherby don't appear to be able to handle them very well.
Racecourse viewing is poor one screen track side and if you have paid for paddock access (at £24) like we did there is very little space to get a decent vantage point to watch the racing. Save yourself money and pay for the cheapest tickets on the otherside of the track we no facilities (about £9) you can't use them anyway so don't bother paying the extra, the viewing stand is not big enough, and the announcements are not clear either so you cannot understand what's going on if there is any steward inquiry or key race goer information.
The quality of the card for such a popular race day fixture (boxing day) was so poor, literally 1 quality race, not worth the price of the tickets to be honest. I knew it wasn't top end racing before going but given the ticket cost and limited services which help make the race day experience it just makes you rethink the value of the product on offer.
Finally while the majority of staff we encountered were lovely, we did experience some rude behavoiur from stewards when leaving swearing at customers is totally unacceptable especially when kids are also in attendance. Now I don't know whether this was brought about by frustration of not having enough staff but its not very proffesional.

Been to quite a few race courses and enjoy hospitality at all of them, Wetherby is without a doubt the best by far. Food was plentiful, starting with a seafood/cold meat buffet which was available throughout the day, Main meal was a carvery, cant go wrong with that, and to finish a help yourself cold dessert buffet, and cheese.
The staff were always available to refill coffee and tea, or get drinks from the bar.
Honestly though if you want a good day at the races and leave with a full stomach and maybe with a bit of luck a full wallet you cant go wrong at Wetherby which some other racecourses i wont mention can take note of.

Fabulous day out lovely course, facilities and friendly staff. Weather great, thankfully no problem with the car park.

Poor parking management- cars stuck in mud and poor traffic management to get out of the races course.

Visited with family day out staff excellent and well organised. Tables and seats socially distanced all set out and hand sanitizer.

Cold....Yes! However that didn’t spoil another wonderful afternoons jump racing.
Wetherby always attract decent horses, and it’s nice to see that the southern trainers come up to try and pinch our prize money. The track gives great viewing, with some great sights of the horses jumping. There’s a saying in jump racing, “ if you can jump round Wetherby, you can jump round anywhere!”
Already looking forward to my next visit.

What is included with the course enclosure?
Our Course Enclosure facilities are basic. There is a small bar, tote betting and toilet facilities including for disabled and baby changing. On the majority of racedays a bookmaker is present however we cannot guarantee bookmaker attendance.

Admissions vary according to enclosure and package purchased. Our best advance discounts for this meeting have now finished. Your best bet is to visit our website for full ticket information and pricing. Premier Enclosure is £33 and Paddock is £21

What time do the bars close? Reason im asking, we are there this Saturday and the Ireland v England game kicks off at 5, just wondered if we would be able to watch it there, because it will be a nightmare trying to get into Wetherby

Normally the bars close 30 minutes after racing at racecourses so I’m thinking you’ll need to head back into Wetherby I’m afraid.I would check with the course though,last time we visited we had very little delay exiting the course but parking could be an issue in the town

Which bars and stands can you access with paddock enclosure tickets and can you see the course and finishing line from there? Thanks

You can access the Bramham Hall and the Paddock Bar and the newer Henry Crossley Bar.
There is a large covered stepped grandstands to watch racing from and you can get close to the finish and to the last fence. You have access to the Parade Ring and pre-parade and saddling stalls as well as the Winner's Enclosure. If you are coming on for the Christmas Meeting there is also a large heated marquee in the paddock which has tote, TV's, bars and catering.
Hi, colin. What would you like to know about this attraction? Hi, is there much of a queue to get in to the premier enclosure? We plan to arrive at midday for a first race start time of 12:30 this Saturday, will we make it in time? Thanks.
