Country life, fresh air, healthy food, all provided in abundance and so much more.
This was an afternoon course at the Cookery School on Autumn Foraging, they do courses at other times of the year as obviously Mother Nature gives us different gifts throughout the year. First big plus was the confirmation email, clear contact instructions and as it is in the countryside clear instructions how to get there , what to wear and what to take, eg bags or containers for the berries, foliage and other edibles we would be picking, tasting and learning about.
The day starts with coffee and fresh scones then we headed out into the estate, quite soon stopping for a lesson in berry identification and some picking. We then moved on to a track next to some woodland where we learned how to identify hogweed (orange tasting), sorrel, crab apples, sloe berries and a multitude of other amazing edibles. Anything poisonous was identified and as we collected everything explanations were clear and all questions answered.
Back to the cookery school for a seriously delicious and healthy lunch then into the kitchen for some demonstrations, identification and tasting.
Wonderful, simply wonderful! Educational, fun, easy, healthy, seriously worth going and I'll be going again!
