It was the first time that we visited or here as a family with our two young children 6 and 3. They were both excited do go here and spend the day. There was load of different themed sections and areas to see. They both loved the dinosaurs and snakes and ladders. I thought there might have been more rides to go on but that didn't seem to phase them as they were occupied with other areas of the park. They both loved the playground areas where you can have some lunch and rest Both were very tired at the end of the day, so I call that a success!

I will start by saying we are 49 and 14 so we were not the target audience! Lots of little kids were having a blast, running around with pretend guns and exploring the odd exhibits. My main gripe is that there are lots of (weird) things to look at, but hardly any rides. I was expecting a lot more. We went on a pirate ship and some tea cups and then spent hours walking around looking at strange statues. A lot of the park is very old, faded and dated looking. I think my highlight was actually a talking dustbin which says it all really.

Having been to BGC several years ago, I was shocked to find how costly it had become! For two adults, two children and two older teens it was almost £200 for what is essentially a walk around decorated pathways with a pleasant view of the English Channel.
The Extinction ride seemed to be the redeeming feature, unfortunately on our trip that broke down four times and on the last time the children spent 20 minutes stuck on the ride while they had to individually hand crank each seat to allow them to get off.
I love the Isle of Wight but I certainly wouldn't be rushing to come back anytime soon to BGC. Save your money for a nice day at the beach and a good meal out with the family as BGC is stuck in the past.

Just spent the day at Blackgang Chine and honestly cannot understand some of the previous negative reviews.
We spent a full 5 hours here, there is so much to see and interact with, my two young children (5 & 2) had the best day and haven’t stopped talking about the dinosaurs, water slides and hall of hall of mirrors.

As this site is reputed to be the UK's oldest theme park, my expectations were not high. Twp grandchildren under two, with their parents, and we as grandparents made for a near 100 quid investment for what was basically a pleasant walk around a beautiful clean and well designed site overlooking the channel, dotted with attractions including real-life dinosaurs (full marks to the sound scapist who designed the audio), a "wild west town" (static but fine for the kids), a maze (very well done ... I got lost), and a water wonderland (all on land and no living creatures) among others. Frankly the thrill of it all was a very good, competitively priced cafe for lunch which provided one of the freshest salads I've had from a cafe in years. The toasties and paninis were also well prepared and tasty. If you're looking for a morning's activities and are prepared to fork out 25 quid each (as adults), then do visit this park.

I'm not sure if we just didn't get this place - but I'm not sure what it was trying to be. There were a few rides, but mainly it seemed to be walking around themed paths in what would have otherwise been a really pretty spot. I thought it lacked something, seemed disjointed and lots of unused/unmaintained areas.
The Snakes & Ladders slides were great for the younger ones, this section was really well laid out. Lovely coffee too.
But otherwise...not great. We stayed only a couple of hours and felt that we drew that out in the (very good) giftshop.

The headline here is "Lose yourself in the Land of Imagination" The reality is that you absolutely need to use your imagination to get much out of BGC.
I'm sad to say this, i first visited the park in the late 70's as a 7/8 year old, I remember it being iconic as a place but nothing really stood out, I think we went to a candle-lit walk there at night which was probably more exciting.
Many visiting seem to draw on their own childhood experience here and hold some kind of candle for the place, leaning on an iconic status when things in one's memory seem so more exciting that reality.
And there lies the issue here, in the 70's the paths through water squirting dinosaurs, mazes, sea world, a haunted house and the Wild West town made for some exciting experiences, but now, it simply doesn't. The place simply hasn't changed and doesn't compete with other parks both on the island and off. One walks from section to section, dated rides, plastic molded figures, a pirate boat I remember from 20 years ago. We worked hard to our 5 and 8 year old to get involved but none were impressed with the dinosaurs, (getting squired with water was just annoying) the haunted house was a none starter and the fairy village moldy and damp. Sea World has no moving parts and the Wild West Town was just a few sheds with nothing going on. Food and drinks were pricy and limited. The maze was fun and the train and slides (when open) offered some value.
It's a shame but BGC needs a revamp and a big one, its pr is misleading, its not impressive, its expensive and it really really isn't anywhere near the high table of choice things to do on the IOW. Kids going today won't I'm certain be left with the same impression of those attending 30-40 years ago.

My 51st annual visit to my favourite place in the world was made complete with investment in a big new ride called extinction , mainly aimed at teenagers and upwards .
Along with old favourites like cowboy town, nursery land looking all freshly cleaned up for the season.
Each ticket comes with an unlimited 7 day return.
My happy place aways brings out the big kid in me on every visit.
Dogs welcome on a lead.
I always arrive with a smile and more so this year as new manager Rachel came over to introduce herself.
This made my day and wish her continued success in her new role.
Needless to say I shall return again and again and again.

So as the new ticket prices stand, it’s £90 PER PERSON for the joint ticket for here and Robin hill. Is that price justified because from the reviews I’m really not sure! It would cost us £270 to do both, and we’re into on the island a week so we would only go once to each aswell!

That sounds like too much to me. We loved Blackgang Chine as a one off day trip, but it was £20/person when we went. Don't know about Robin Hill.
Is Blackgang Chine closed after sept 6th. Tickets are showing as unavailable.

Is there a free carer concession for disabled visitors?
Lauren C-O
Yes, but you have to bring the following to prove it. The disabled visitor needs to pay full price as do the rest of the guests.
Disability Living Allowance or Attendance Allowance award letter (dated within the last 12 months).
Personal Independence Payment letter (dated within the last 12 months).
A current and valid Blue Badge (or picture of, if the badge in with the vehicle).
Letter from GP or consultant (dated within the last 12 months) confirming the need for a full-time carer. This does not need to be a letter of diagnosis.
