A really interesting collection. Fascinating to see how the designs have evolved and the more outlandish and interesting ones have become obsolete.

This museum popped up whilst searching Google maps, and I was intrigued. It's a large collection of lawnmowers on two floors with an audio commentary. I never knew there were so many different types of mowers, and seeing some of them bought back memories.
It's only £3 (2024) to get in and it was money well spent.

Went on a Heritage Open Days visit. A second visit for my hubby and I, but a first for a friend.
A hidden gem down a little road. Normal entrance fee is just £3. Two floors, so you need to be able to climb stairs.
Who knew there were so many lawnmowers? They have about 200 on display.
Our guide and curater of the museum was Brian. He spent over an hour telling us about lawnmowers. He was so informative. A thoroughly enjoyable tour, just the right length.
There are no toilets at the museum. They have a little souvenir shop.
Please go and give them a visit. Such an unusual museum, with donations from famous people

Wasn't looking forward to this but really enjoyed it
We had the guided tour and it was so interesting, hearing about how lawn mowers were first invented, how they were engineered.
The history of how they were originally pulled by horses.
Great photos of the rich and famous sitting on their lawn mowers, great fun
Such a pleasant way to spend an hour and a bit in Southport and I do recommend the guided tour

No idea what its like as I went today after travelling for several hours only to find it was shut.
No mention on their website at all, just a piece of A4 stuck to the window. Maybe try telling people a little more clearly. I wont bother going back.
If you do go maybe triple check they will be open the times / days they say they are.

We thought it would be fun to take our friends to this museum, thinking it would just be quirky. In the event it was really interesting and fun. I guess it's probably not great for young kids but anyone who has ever had to cut a lawn will find it intriguing to see the history as machine technology has moved on through the decades.
The welcome was really friendly and all in all a very pleasant visit.

There's so much to see it can be a bit overwhelming to start with. There's a narration starts talking as you enter the first room and it takes you through from the invention of the first lawnmower (it was invented to mow cloth not lawn!) all they way to the modern robot mowers.
It points out various mowers in each room during this story. We went back to the beginning when it finished and went through with it all over again to understand more. There are even racing lawnmowers.
It's a national treasure of a museum.

At the back of a gardening and lawnmower shop sits this fascinating museum.
Didn’t know that such existed until local favourite Lee Mack told us about it on one of the most entertaining BBC programs. He kindly donated his own dibber, used to make holes in soil for seeds or small plants, to the collection.
An informative audio accompanies the visit. It gives an engaging account of the development of grass cutting machinery over a century or two. Particularly apposite given the English enduring love of gardens and gardening.
A fabulous assemblage of machines is displayed over a couple of floors. It was great to see the earliest mechanical mowers, which were engineered for relative simplicity but still achieved the result.
ATCO appliances feature. In 1981 they presented one of their sophisticated mowers as a wedding present to Charles and Diana.
A ubiquitous machine, Flymo, is well documented. Including details of a prototype from 2005 that was the most expensive Flymo ever to produce, at £35,000. Not surprising that it never went into production.
