It is a number of years since i have been here and decided to take my grandson during half term on a cold February day.
We started outside and had a wander through the park before entering the castle,the lady on the desk then suggested to us to follow a suitable route starting in the chapel and then moving through the rooms.
Despite every room having information for you to read what really stands out here is the staff, they would explain everything about the rooms to you in such a enthusiastic manner you have to be impressed.
A truly great visit, even a twelve year old that really only wants to play on his phone was impressed.

Went to Library restaurant for Christmas fayre. Fabulous 3 course Christmas meal. Staff were very attentive and friendly. Food was delicious. Value for money. Went with our son who really enjoyed meeting the chef. Would love more events like this . Keep up the good work. A+++

Undoubtedly the best part is the staff! Brilliant knowledge, super friendly, informative, chatty. Allow extra time for your visit because they will (and did!) chat for hours. Zubaran pictures superb. Definitely going back. (Tip. An Art Pass allows free entry to all Auckland Project Inc. Mining Gallery Auckland Castle and Spanish Gallery plus hundreds of places UK wide).

Not quite what I expected. The sign posting is poor, the car park is a long way from the Castle- turning up at 1 pm was possibly not a good idea as the guides seemed to be at lunch and certain ares were closed but did open later.
The picture galleries have very subdued lighting but the pictures have to be preserved.
The living rooms were much better.
At 2pm the cafe had run out of most things .
No chance of buying anything in the shop at 2.45pm - they were cashing up.
I went with high hopes but for £14 I did not feel that I got value for money.

Great place to visit both for the building itself, which is architecturally impressive and the history that goes with it. The Zurbarán paintings in the dining room are particularly good and were probably the highlight of our visit, although the rest of the exhibits were also very interesting, especially the rooms used by previous bishops and their families from the 60s and 80s, which were complete with many items from those times. Good and reasonably priced coffee shop too, which was a bonus.

Firstly, this building is fully accessible to a wheelchair user with level access from the outside and ramps and/or lifts between the various levels. Also disabled WC. And worth pointing out that there are disabled parking spaces in the Market Place just outside the Castle. So it ticked a number of boxes for us - it was also fascinating inside and well restored with certain rooms being fitted out specific to a particular year and the Bishop who occupied the property. Room stewards were helpful and conversational with their information rather than lecturing which is quite difficult to do but worked very well making us feel welcome but not overwhelmed with information.

Took a group of 17 adults to visit the castle. They were all extremely impressed.
It is rather expensive especially the coach parking fee but the castle is a fascinating place. It is full of interest and the rooms are atmospheric and well set out.
A very nice cafe.

I didn't quite know what to expect when I approached the Auckland Project but it's a very interesting, and well restored and presented attraction.
At the centre is Auckland Castle. There's a lots to see including the grand throne room, chapel and dining room. Equally interesting are the smaller rooms each telling the story of different bishops from different eras.
The deer shelter is extraordinarily extravagent and ecclesiastical in design and the walled garden is immaculate. Wish my veg patch was like that! Your visit will probably start at the new tower visitor centre in the market place.
Well worth also mentioning is that the Auckland Project aims to be a catalyst for community regeneration. What an ingenious idea and excellent scheme to support.
Only very minor qualm: I'd have loved a guidebook telling the story of the Prince Bishops and the website is light on content. I suspect very few people go to the two galleries that comprise the rest of the Project.

Adult: £10
Concessions: £8 (over 60s, full-time students, unwaged)
Under 16s: £3
You can also buy an Auckland Pass, which gives you access to the Castle, Mining Art Gallery, Auckland Tower and Bishop Trevor Gallery. These cost:
Adults £12.50
Concessions £10.50
Under 16s £3
The Auckland Pass tickets are valid for repeat visits. You can find more information on our website.

Hello, sorry or the late reply. Afternoon Teas are served everyday except Tuesdays. Afternoon Teas must be booked in advance with at least 48 hours notice. You can do this calling 01388 743 750.
Prices are £14.50 per person, £39 for two people with 1/2 bottle of Prosecco or £55 for two people with half a bottle of Champagne.
