A fantastic day out!!
Well organised, friendly, fun & professional.
Pete & Archie took our teen boys out for 1:1 tuition, teaching the basics, then testing their limits!
While the boys then had a hot lunch in the modern, warm cafe/bar, the Dads then went for their briefing after which they all went out for 2 fun sets of drives!!
Obviously the boys beat the Dads!
Thanks everyone at Dunkswell Raceway for a brilliant day!
We will be back!

Very meaningful trip as my husband's namesake (uncle) never returned with his B24 or crewmates in February 1944. Much kudos to Brian who went above and beyond on our visit and the rest of the volunteers who keep their memory alive.

Great little museum with lots of interesting exhibits. One of the volunteers there (Chris I think) really went out of his way to tell and show us particular highlights. Glad we arrived quite soon after opening as it got really busy. Only thing that could be improved if it were possible is that the little films running including the intro are all quite close together and competing so it could be difficult to hear the audio. Other than that it was excellent. We popped into the cafe while there which was surprisingly large with an extensive menu and fantastic homemade cakes. We didn’t have time to sample them but will definitely be back for breakfast in the near future.

Our volunteers are wonderful - we take on board your comment about the films and they are now at a level where you have to be stabnding right by them to hear properly.

Good history of the airfield, me and my young family went to visit and was very informative on the history of the airfield, we went in sat down and watched a historic video for about 10 mins and then walked around to look at my the artifacts, worth a visit if in the area

Thanks to our excellent guide Brian we enjoyed a really interesting and informative group visit to Dunkeswell Heritage Centre to learn about the crucial role the airfield played in World War II. Well worth it.

Made a visit with the Somerset and Dorset Stag owners club and had an excellent guided tour and visit to the heratage museum.

A great heritage centre with lots of information sheets, photos and exhibits. Very well laid out with some very friendly volunteers who took an active interest in what we wanted to learn. Thank you to John and the other volunteer (sorry I didnt get his name) who made the visit even better.
Maybe have a few more trinkets to donate and purchase to help with your funds.
Well worth a visit probably spend 1-2hrs here of you really are interested.

A little gem hidden away just up the road for us. We’ve lived her just over a year now and have intended to visit before now. But as they close for winter (understandable given the climate and tourism round here) we had to wait. The visit was worth the wait and I’ll certainly return on my when I have more time to read through everything and take on board more information.

I made a pre-arranged telephone appointment with Brian Lane-Smith (Chairman of the Trust) to visit the museum and take the airfield tour, Be aware that mobile telephone contact can be a little hit-&-miss due to the local terrain......
Brian greeted my wife and I at the museum, and talked us through the sequence of exhibits and the photographic history of the airfield history (the airfield construction is unique in that it was built by and recorded the Americans, and therefore wartime photography was allowed - no official secrets for them!).
Brian then took us on the guided tour of the whole airfield (just be aware that your own car is used) - a very comprehensive photo document is also used for the tour, with old photographs used to illustrate 'then and now'.
The museum is run entirely by very knowledgeable (unpaid) volunteers - Brian included, but a donation is (and should be) made for the effort.
This is a huge amount of WW2 history that should be general knowledge to all. We were much encouraged that both young and old, single and in groups were visiting the museum whilst we were there.
Dunkeswell is still an active airfield, with parachute jumps and training going on -plenty to see. The main clubhouse has food and drinks available to all visitors and is to be recommended
