My wife and I were guests of the owners Vicky and Fletch on a road trip in Portugal, more or less by chance. The Swiss woman and her Australian partner have been running this beautiful ranch in Portugal for 6 years. 200 characters are not nearly enough to describe this incredible experience. Everyone, whether horse lover, rider or adventurer, should spend a holiday with them. The diversity of this beautiful area and the loving hosts make you feel something that is very difficult to describe. Everything and really everything is so different from home.
Not negative, but exactly the opposite... you feel so incredibly free and everything is so important, time stands still and you find yourself... an incredible attitude to life. Thank you so much for the time we were able to spend with you and all your animals... we will definitely see each other again.

We were staying in Ourique for a week, the only downside of our holiday (for my daughter) was that she would miss riding. Finding a stables so close to where we were staying was fantastic! I spoke with Becca (who is English) a few times before we flew out to discuss the options and little things like if they had boots we could borrow (which they did along with hats etc) so we didn’t have to pack anything other than flip flops for the holiday! We went for a hack which was lovely and relaxed. The horses are WONDERFUL. My daughter hasn’t been riding long and we couldn’t have hoped for a better pony for her. The horses were SO fantastic I am already looking forward to coming back so I can have a lesson (I haven’t had a lesson for at least 9 years!) and for a hack in the evening to watch the sun set.
A great way to see Alentejo even if you aren’t particularly into horses - would recommend to everyone.

We stayed a couple of nights near Ourique. Met Becs (new owner of the Equus Ourique) when we were out for dinner at Castro do Cola. Took the kids there the following day. It’s a fully functioning professional stables, recently taken over by Becs and her Partner(ex motor x rider!) they were awesome!!!! They took the kids got them set up in protective gear, took them out into a covered/shaded paddock for a lesson then a walk around the farm to a small lake. The kids had a great time! I can’t recommend this place enough!! Be warned though, the business card we were given had the old owners number on it(Pru), I think she gets a tad annoyed at all the mis directed calls!!! It’s also great value!!!

I have been a few times to get lessons. I have learned a lot about classical riding and in hand training here.
If I have the time available I email ahead and arrange to have a day of riding lessons and the team at Equus Ourique have always been great organising a memorable day for me. It has been a couple of years since my last visit but hope to get back soon.

This is my second trip to Equus Ourique, for my first trip in May, I made the easy journey on the ic1 from the Algarve to Equus for 3 mornings during my 2 week holiday, these amazing mornings of lessons which catered for myself and other family members, made such an impression, i booked again to visit again 5 months later in October. This time i booked Quince cottage for myself, my 3 yr old, my mum and friend, whilst the guys in our group booked a 3 day golf break in the Algarve. Julian picked us up from a late flight in from Faro airport, our flight was delayed due to adverse weather, yet Julian was cheery and welcoming and fitted my child seat into his vehicle within seconds, when we arrived at Equus Ourique he helped us unload and settled into the cottage although it was now past midnight. The cottage has everything you could wish for including very comfortable beds, great showers and a full mini bar including a wine rack! I had asked Pru if she would cook an evening meal for us to make life easy, it was positively the best decision, as every evening sitting outside on the terrace in the warm evening sunshine, we had an amazing meal, which we all enjoyed including my little boy who is very allergic to any dairy and Pru totally catered for him.
The riding is second to none, amazing instruction and fantastic horses, you are immediately put at ease and your requirements totally catered for, through e mail Pru discussed with me what i wanted to achieve before i arrived, and a basic plan was put together, I hasten to add this plan is flexible and on both trips we added to it, a note for any total beginners, i arrived this time with a friend who at 59 had never had ANY contact with horses, she chose to have 2 lessons and has returned to the UK talking about taking up riding.
Well worth a mention is a massage from Vicky, I had one at the end of the trip which took away all my aches, however next time i shall have one at the start and the end!
Every visit exceeds my expectations, I will be visiting again soon.

Beautiful setting and super lessons on wonderful horses. Pru is extremely accommodating and arranges exactly what you want to do, inhand/lunge lessons/ridden, and will try and fit in which horse you want to ride. You can do a bit of everything and Vicky also gave us a few great demos. They are very flexible if you prefer to relax and hack that day etc. Thank you for a wonderful stay! I went away with lots of food for thought, perfect place to combine learning with a holiday too

Many thanks to Pru, Julian and the staff for making our recent week with them so good. Fabulous place, fabulous horses and chocolate fondants to die for! Can not recommend it highly enough for both those wanting to improve their riding and also those looking to explore further into Portugal.
Will definatley be back next year.

I stayed for 4 nights towards the end of September and had a very enjoyable short break. Communication from Pru and Julian up to and on the day of my trip was great, which put my mind at ease as I was travelling alone.
I had a brilliant time at Equus Ourique - excellent tuition, wonderful horses, delicious food, friendly hosts and staff (including the cats and dogs!), comfortable accommodation, fantastic weather and awesome swimming pool!
I found the riding method a whole new learning experience - challenging, incredibly interesting and very rewarding. I only wish I'd had longer to work on what I learnt over the few days I was there.
It's a great place to unwind, enjoy the tranquility and learn from experienced, patient instructors and horses. I hope to return...

I stayed in Equus Ourique for 4 nights in September and my only regret is that I didn't stay longer! The cottage is very comfortable to stay in and is situated overlooking the paddocks, so it's nice to look out each morning and see the beautiful horses. I didn't hire a car, but the cottage was stocked with everything I needed, and the meals provided by Pru and Julian at their house were wonderful. It was a big change for me learning to ride in this classical way, but both Pru and Vicky were very patient instructors and the impeccably schooled horses are quick to let you know when you are wrong anyway!! The staff on the yard are a lovely bunch of people, and the overall atmosphere is very relaxing. And to top it off they have very friendly cats and dogs! It was a great experience to be taught on such amazing Portugese horses, and I highly recommend Equus Ourique to any equine enthusiast!
