We went to Stanford University and in particular were there to look at the art which is exhibited outdoors as well as the very good art museum.
One of the art pieces we liked was the Burghers of Calais Sculpture. It was done by Rodin.

世界各地に点在するカレーの市民を題材にしたロダンの作品群の一つです。傑作です。大学に来た際は寄ってみることをおすすめします。

カレーの市民ですね。鬼気迫る様子があってちょっと異様ですが、その分大変見事でよくできな彫像です。大学内にあります。おそらくロダンの作だと思われます。

Stanford has the largest Rodin collection outside of France, and I never grow tired of visiting them, particularly this very impressive collection. I have photographed them in daytime and night time and all kinds of weather, and the greatest challenge is usually just waiting for people to move out of the way. You can walk right up to the statues, touch them, admire Rodin's handiwork and even take a selfie with them. It is unusual for great art to be so approachable.

These sculptures (by Rodin) are just off Palm Drive as you enter the large Stanford central courtyard. They are fun and interesting, but if you like them, you have to go to the Rodin Sculpture Garden.

Uma belíssima obra ao ar livre. Impressionantes as figuras em tamanho natural, dado o realismo e beleza tocante que elas trasmitem. Imperdível, assim como é imperdível a visita a esta lindíssima universidade.

The Bay Area is so lucky to have Rodin magnificent pieces all over Stanford University. Every time I visit the school, I go to see this piece, The Burghers of Calais, (1840 - 1917) and always stunned for its realism, drama and pure beauty. You can feel the pain, the suffering, the unjust and undignified experience. A must see free exhibit! Try to go earlier in the morning or past 6:00 pm because it gets really busy with students.

Bravery, devotion to duty and fear are conveyed in this marvellous powerful sculpture.
Purportedly set in the mid 1300s during the Hundred Years War when the English captured the French city of Calais and the victor demanded that six of the city's leaders surrender to him, presumably to be executed.
The figures are shown with nooses in place, conveying overpowering feelings of fear, duty and anticipation of imminent death.
According to one account their lives were actually spared through the intervention of the English Queen.
