‪We have been several times to the Bing Concert Hall on Stanford campus, and each time has been a wonderful experience. We have had the opportunity to see some excellent world-renown performers -- including Laurie Anderson and the Kronos Quartet - as well as the Stanford Symphony orchestra. The hall has excellent acoustics, and very comfortable seating. There is a place for food and drink before the performance, but if you have more time, I would recommend the Arrillaga Family Dining Commons, which has much more variety, better pricing, and better wine! And, if you do an afternoon performance, come early and visit the Cantor Art cneter, which is a real treat and walking distance to the Bing. ‬

‪The Chorale seats behind the stage should be avoided for classical orchestra or solo performances. They suffer very poor (muddy and attenuated) acoustics of the performers. On 11/14/19, a solo oboeist turned occasionally to the rear for those behind the baroque orchestra and suddenly the sound was clear, loud and replete with full high notes. But when he faced the greater (forward) seating, the remnants left for the Chorale seat occupants were weak and muffled.‬

‪The seating surrounds this stage and the sound management in the building is wonderful, as you'd expect from such a new development at Stanford. Highly recommended.‬

‪This concert hall is a fantastic addition to the Stanford campus! The hall is beautiful, and acoustics are fantastic. Some seats are on the side and even behind the stage, so take this into consideration when booking tickets.‬

‪Perfect venue for an orchestra or symphony. If you have not been before, you should go. Sound is great. Seats are great. Stage is great. ‬

‪We were there on a Saturday night for a jazz concert. Though auditorium was warm concert was enjoyable. It doesn't look like you can get a bad seat. There seemed to be plenty of parking as well. Drinks are ridiculously expensive. 3 wines were approximately $30! ‬

‪This concert hall surrounds you with wood and music, and allows you to feel as one with the musicians. We actually sat behind the orchestra for a Philharmonia Baroque concert in April, and so could relate to the Maestro as he led the orchestra in a moving concert of works by Beethoven and one of his contemporaries.

The hall, located on the Stanford University campus, is very small, and parking is nearby and free. This was my first experience at the Bing, and I look forward to many more, even though it involves driving across the bridge from Berkeley.‬

‪The Hall is part of newest Stanford University auditoria serving the community with a broad range of presentations some of whom is experimental. Electronic tuning is constantly done, some of which attempts to simulate st Sophia’s acoustics with great success. The stage is versatile with movable floors to handle orchestral as well as chamber performances. Occasionally, when the floor is retracted, ethnic dancing is performed which can be visually stunning consequent to the intimate nature of the Hall.
Additionally, there performances of films together with orchestral accomplments that are very inspiring.‬

‪I had the opportunity to attend a concert by Jason Moran in the large concert hall, and later that night go downstairs to see Patricia Barber with her trio. Definitely, the Bing is also a great venue for jazz in Stanford, great architecture and great sound. Nevertheless, the Bing Studio downstairs would profit from additional furniture, a better stage and decor elements to turn it into a more cozy and warm space, specially for solo, duo and trio concerts.‬

‪We went to hear a trio recently, one of the young groups vetted and recommended by the St Lawrence String Quartet. The hall is beautiful, comfortable seats, nice site lines. The tuning of the space is very specific, though. Even though we were only a few rows back, the violin was standing where his sound was extremely loud and clear, even his breathing was louder than that of the cellist playing just a few feet away. This was true even when his passage was soft and the cellist was supposed to be dominating. This was clearly an artifact of the tuning of the hall, not the performance. I have no reason to think the hall cannot be tuned better - I hope those acoustic panels are not fixed in place - but it is capable of being very much out of balance.‬
