This massive church dates back to the second half of the 13th century although, as with many churches of this vintage, it appears to have been constructed above the remains of a Roman age building. Also, in the period since, it has undergone a number of restructures and renovations, particularly in the 16th, 18th, 19th and 20th centuries which resulted in, amongst other structures, the addition of 10 side chapels. Archaeological excavations in 1983 discovered the terra cotta floor from the 14th century
The facade is structured of brick and is divided into three sections by narrow pilasters that continue up to the gabled roof. The three sections correspond to the three internal naves. On the central section a white plastered element in a terracotta frame protrudes from the brick surface of the facade. This element is divided by a terra cotta strip into two unequal sections with the top section housing an oculus and the bottom a large blind arch. The portal is dominated by a trefoil arch that is enclosed in an ogival arch that is supported with sandstone and brick columns in alternating bands. There is a badly worn fresco in the lunette above the portal and above that a small marble image of San Domenico.. The two lateral sections have large lancet windows.
Internally the structure is a basilica shape with three naves with columns supporting the pointed arches separating the naves and the ribbed cross vaults. The elongated presbytery has a polygonal apse with a small apse on either side that open out into the lateral naves.
The church has been stripped of all ornamental furnishings including its Baroque main altar.
Substantial restoration and archaeological works since 1975 have uncovered partial sections of 14th and 15th century frescoes. There are also sections of more recent frescoes partially visible.
The structure these days caters to conferences and exhibitions for the benefit of the community.

La chiesa di San Domenico è l'unica chiesa del centro storico a conservare il suo bellissimo fascino del gotico del XIII secolo.
Una visita va fatta assolutamente.
DESCRIZIONE:
La costruzione è del XIII secolo.
La facciata è in stile gotico.
L'interno è a tre navate, a pianta basilicale in stile gotico.
La cosa più interessante e bella sono gli affreschi dell'abside e gli affreschi e decorazioni delle colonne che separano dalle navate.
INGRESSO: libero.
Una visita va fatta assolutamente.

Kirken er rigtig flot udefra. Vi kom desværre mens kirken havde middagslukket (kl 12-15) så vi fik desværre ikke set den indefra.

La chiesa di San Domenico è un antico edificio religioso in stile gotico che sorge nel centro storico cittadino. Nella sobria facciata in mattoni spicca il decorato portale con lunetta affrescata. L’interno è a tre navate con volte a crociera, e seppure ormai spogliato di tutti gli arredi, presenta interessanti tracce degli antichi cicli di affreschi e degli altari addossati alle pareti laterali. La chiesa è oggi utilizzata come suggestiva sede di mostre d’arte e sporadicamente di concerti musicali. A mio parere, risulta una delle visite più interessanti ed originali che si possano fare ad Alba.

Chiesa consacrata gestita dalla Famija Albeisa, ente morale, è utilizzata per mostre, concerti ed attività culturali. Da visitare !!!

La chiesa venne costruita con il convento di San Domenico .
E' uno degli edifici più significativi di tutta la città: la sua figura imponente, ma nello stesso tempo austera.
Di particolare interesse il portale.

Chiesa sconsacrata che ospita mostre temporanee. Nella zona absidale e nelle volte interessanti affreschi (virtù, santi) molto belli.

E' una Chiesa già bella in facciata con il portale in cui si vede la Madonna del rosario tra S.Domenico e S.Caterina, è ciò che rimane di un antico Convento (demolito, oggi vi è un Liceo). la Chiesa oggi in parte restaurata negli affreschi, è a navata unica con cappelle absidali laterali . Mi sono piaciuti gli affreschi delle volte. Ora è sede di eventi, gestita e restaurata dall'associazione Famija Albèisa, ho visto la mostra "forme e colori" di arte contemporanea

Una delle chiese più interessanti della città sotto molti punti di vista, anche se è ancora in fase di ristrutturazione. Attualmente ospita delle mostre d'arte moderna, ma basta camminarci dentro per qualche minuto per capire che siamo di fronte a un monumento di rara bellezza e di fascino estremo.

Grande edificio gotico - senza rimaneggiamenti dell'Ottocento che ne abbiano compromesso la lettura - con interessanti affreschi. Meriterebbe un complessivo restauro per valorizzare meglio struttura e contenuto. Restauri, a quel che ho visto, ne sono stati anche fatti, ma un po' "a spizzichi".
