We had planned to do this activity before we visited and weren't disappointed. The hike isn't difficult and anyone with a relative amount of fitness should be able to complete the walk.
My only tip would be wear appropriate footwear, I wore trainers which were fine but did slip on gravel on a few occasions, my trail trainers or walking boots would give better grip, and sticks are not necessary. Sun cream and water certainly are.
We stopped halfway for a welcome drink and snacks in a traditional farmhouse before completing the walk. We did with an organised tour but you can very easily do it independently although public transport can be notoriously unreliable and you would probably need a day with the hanging about if travelling from Sorrento like us. This is a very underrated walk which should be on most people's itineraries. It won't disappoint.

Phenomenal hike! Easy if you like hiking and have good knees; more difficult if you have trouble with downhill as the 1700 steps from Nocelle to Positano at the end may be a lot! Absolutely stunning scenery and nice wildlife too - butterflies and lizards aplenty. There is a water fountain partway, but bring a full, big bottle or two with you.
We started from Amalfi: take the bus to Agerola (Bomerano), buying a ticket pre-boarding in one of the Tabacchi shops (€2). Bus takes about 35 mins. Get off at Bomerano, follow signs to Sentiero degli Dei. Hike is well signposted, with lots of amazing viewpoints, took us 3.5 hours to get to Nocelle with plenty water/photo stops. Definitely get a lemon granite (slushie) at Lemon Point when you get to Nocelle! (€3) Then after the steps, we got ferry back from Positano to Amalfi (€9). Views are unreal. SO WORTH IT!

This walk was incredible - amazing views and lots of fun variations in scenery!
Note that there are Lots of reviews saying the hike up from Praiano is really challenging - if you’re not overweight and can walk you’ll be fine!
The steps up from Praiano take you around a beautiful little convent, plus if you’re coming from Positano and jump off in Praianoit avoids a 1.5hour bus ride up to Bomerano!
The walk starts from opposite Hotel Smeraldo and is very well signposted - look for little red dots on the rocky path after the convent.

We had seen a short YouTube video on this and decided to do this after a short visit to Ravello. We decided to at the Bomerano end and continued to Positano and down the dreaded 1800 steps.
There is some debate on the various hiking sites, like AllTrails, as to whether this is easy, intermediate, or advanced hike. I suppose ultimately it depends upon how much of it you do, what the weather conditions are like, and how fit you are. Overall, we found it to be intermediate. There are some rather steep areas of rock in places, so proper shoes are a must, and as I type this my legs are still a bit achy from the steps (a week later). I would not recommend this for very small children but I think anyone who is reasonably healthy can do this in about 3 hours.
We had hired a driver for the day so it was convenient to have him drop us by the start in Bomerano where there is a little restaurant where you can buy last minute bottles of cold water and trail snacks as well as use the toilets. Our driver also collected us at the end.
The trail is generally well marked with signs and red & white painted splotches. We did go the wrong way at Nocelle as the sign was ambiguous at that point. Tip - if you want to go all the way to Positano if you pass the Nocelle toilets you have gone the wrong way!
Views were spectacular, both of the landscapes but also some of the local farm animals like goats and horses.
We did the walk on a Sunday and were concerned that there would be too many people but except for a couple of choke points we had the trail mostly to ourselves. When we did run into people they were generally very friendly.
A very memorable hike.

Think twice about this hike if you have limited time in Amalfi. It’s become a casualty of over tourism (in which I’m also a problem). The hike took around 2.5 hrs, after catching the SITA bus in Amalfi and arriving in Bolmerano. FYI, in Amalfi you catch the bus in the centre close to the roundabout where all the buses are grouped.
The vistas were beautiful, we did it on a beautiful sunny day. However, at every single point in the hike, we saw 20 people in front of us and 20 people behind us. There weren’t many places to stop for water without causing a hiker jam.
Honestly, the views in Ravello were equivalent, and we certainly wouldn’t do this hike again.
For those with mobility issues, you should avoid. Steep inclines and declines. Slippery surfaces and narrow pathways.
Perhaps better done during off season.
3/5.

This was honestly an experience like no other I've ever had in my life. Definitely do this before sunrise so you can experience the beauty of these cliffs and the view of what seems like the world when fresh. I would suggest doing this solo as I did- I feel like I got to know myself better, and really connected to my surroundings. I can still feel the peace I felt that morning. The path is clearly marked, so you will not get lost. Enjoy!!

Nice walk with great views which was not hugely physically challenging at all if you walk from bomerano to nocelle. We then carried on to montepertuso and walked down the (many!) steps to Positano. I am not a huge fan of heights but the paths are wide enough that it was fine- the views are worth it! Would recommend this walk as a nice half day activity, try and start fairly early as the paths get very busy with groups.

Friends told us Bomorano to Nocelle was an easy path. We don't mind up and down hills, but a good 1/2 of this was just big stones and boulders which required much knee and ankle stability. Would have been different with ankle support.
We are 69, but somewhat fit. This hike was torture because we miscalculated. Only 1 bottle of water each was not enough. Started at 2:30 and took 4 1/2 hours because our knees and ankles threatened to give out. Sun was threatening to set.
The parts where there was a path without giant rocks to scramble over were a delight. Awful thing to say, but the view was better from our terrace in Atrani because we really, truly had to watch every single step for so much of the hike.
So... Wear high shoes, bring LOTS of water, and if you are a slower or cautious walker, plan to leave early so you're not looking at a possible night hike!

We started in Bomerano and ended in Nocelle. It took two hours and ten minutes with photo and snack breaks.I wore walking shoes and was fine, but if you have any ankle issues,I recommend higher shoes to prevent a twisted ankle.
We hiked on a Sunday and encountered large local hiking clubs and families. Groups are very accommodating and let you pass -or pass you- with a smile and word of encouragement.
You do need to watch where you are going as the terrain is variable and a misstep easy. It is not a hard hike if you are a hiker,BUT it is not a walk in the park and you should be prepared for a variety of terrain.
Don't miss the cairns on the right about three-quarters down path. There are hundreds of them going up several levels. It's worth climbing up to take a look.
A word to the wise:We were being picked up in Nocelle and were surprised that we had NO CELL PHONE RECEPTION to let them know we were there and ready.Luckily a vendor selling limeade had reception and called for us.It was the only place in Amalfi our phones didn't work.
No bugs during our October hike, but take water and sunscreen.

Everybody talks about this hike, so of course we had to do it. I suspect there are many hikes with beautiful views that are less challenging. But If you have the interest and the stamina - go for it. But do a little homework first. What made the hike more challenging than need be is how we approached it. We approached the hike from from the town of Praiano, not realizing that we had about 1500-2,000 uneven steps and stairs to climb before we even got to the path! So figure out a better way to start (unless you want this challenge). Start from Bomerano or Nocelle. We were staying in Praiano and did not want to deal with taking the bus to either of these starting locations, but it would have been a smart idea. Nonetheless - however you choose to do it -it is beautiful and memorable. If you end up in Nocelle, you can take a bus down to Positano. I would recommend that. We chose to walk down to Positano which did not add any particular charm or great vistas, so why bother. Take the bus (to start or end). However you do it- dedicate your day to it, and enjoy a cold beer or Spritz when you are done!

Hello! Just looking at posts about the path of the Gods. I am wondering how long the walk takes from Bomerano, after getting dropped off there, back to Positano to the beach.
Thank you!

Sorry for the delayed response, didn’t see your question earlier. Once in Bomerano, you are really at your own pace and it’s so beautiful, it’s not something you want to rush. I remember that we took the 10:00 am bus from Amalfi to Bomerano and the last boat (believe it was about 5 pm) back to Sorrento where we were staying. I’m guessing we were in Positano by 3 pm because there was a nasty rainstorm that blew in about 3:30 & we were grateful to be off the trail. You can do the hike in 21/2 to 3 hrs. But hey, stop & smell the ocean air, it’s fantastic!

Hello. We are planning on parking in Bomerano and hiking only half way to Nocelle and back to Bomerano. We have children and don't think they can handle the full hike. Will we still have great views during the first half of the trail? Thanks in advance.

The whole hike is incredible! I loved the views of the terraced farms in the beginning of the hike. You should be able to make it to the first water fountain from Bomerano, that view is spectacular!
P.S. I’m from Lima, Ohio and we saw some fellow Buckeyes on the trail.
I absolutely loved the Path of the Gods!

Hi - I enjoyed your review! Last October we hiked Path of the Gods from Bomerano to Nocelle and had the best lunch ever. It was challenging as I have a bad ankle. However we are headed back again this year and are considering doing the leg from Nocelle to Positano - are the views wonderful? I know it's about 2000 steps - is that part worth it? How long did it take you for that part? Thanks~
PS - I have no idea how I ended up with the silly name I have on Trip Advisor - need to change it!

What is the best car service to get from Sorrento to the start of the trail? Is it worth getting a car instead of taking the 2+ hour bus trip?

It is definitely worth hiring a driver to take you to the start of the hike. We hired Sorrento Car Service and they are wonderful! Our driver picked us up in Praiano and dropped us off at the trailhead in Bomerano.
The drive is beautiful. The bus ride would take about two hours, and then you would start the hike much later in the morning.
We then took a boat taxi back to Praiano from Positano. That was a very reasonable way to travel!

Hi! I am staying in Postiano. Once morning I would like to go to Fiordo di Furore and then do the Path of the Gods hike. What is the fastest way to get to the trail from Fiordo di Furore?
Celia P
مونتريال, كندا876 مساهمة
Fiordo di Furore is apparently closed due to rocks falling, but if you’re starting from there you have to take the little stairs going all the way up until you reach Bomerano. The stairs are not cleared and you’ll get full of mosquito bites. Our hotel was located half way between the Fiordo and Bomerano and it take 30 mins going up or down the stairs both ways. Therefore, if you don’t want to hike for an hour before starting the actual hike of the Path of the Gods, you’re better off taking the SITA bus. Check the schedule as it changes every now and then. The bus is normally 1.30€ each way.
