Perhaps it was one of the best experiences, we stayed a week in these parts over the New Year period, too beautiful, the Christmas markets are characteristic, with typical products of Trentino, mulled wine hot drink, between sub-zero temperature and the scent of pine lily of the valley make you really live the Christmas period. We will return, because only around here, at least for me, I feel the real Christmas and the excitement of waiting for the new year ❤️

It is the most important sacred building in the eastern Alps structured on three naves dates back to about 1140, while the dome and vaults were built after 1200, the bell tower in 1326, the Crucifixion Group is from 1240 and the prothyrus is from 1415.
Dedicated to Saints Candido and Corbiniano, patrons of the church, it has valuable works of art such as a beautiful wooden crucifix of the thirteenth century, splendid frescoes in the central dome and an interesting crypt.
Outside there is a small cemetery and deserves attention the beautiful gabled facade and the fifteenth-century tabernacle with the nearby Granary of the Chapter, inside which is the Museum of the collegiate church.

The highlight of San Candido is the view that you can see every time you look up at the wonders around it. Beautiful mountains and clean air. Very beautiful also the collegiate Christian settlement dated at the beginning of the year 1000. In style
Romanesque is very impressive.
The only flaw if I can say is that in the streets of the country there were a little too many Saracens... too bad.

At the tourist office ask for the magnificent book written by the famous professor Kűhebacher; they will tell you that the one in Italian is still available; take it, read it and reread it and above all observe the collegiate church and then San Michele and then the Franciscan Church

'Austere' complex both outside and inside (far from the baroque of the nearby church of San Michele) where exposed stone in typical Romanesque style prevails. The interior consists of three naves with columns supporting arches and is not very bright due to the style.
On the main altar there is the wooden group of the Crucifixion from the Romanesque era while an interesting fresco with some stories of the Creation decorates the dome. Free entry.
The crypt is interesting as is the small cemetery behind the cathedral which is worth spending a few moments there.

Certainly the most important Romanesque monument in Tyrol. Built on the remains of an 8th century religious building, completely rebuilt in 1124. Some valuable works preserved inside such as a 13th century wooden statue and a series of frescoes. Interior with three naves. The exterior immediately captures attention for its perfect Romanesque "simplicity". The notable bell tower was built later, in 1323.
