We hadn't visited here for ages and now wonder why. We took our dogs last week and it is so pretty, there are several marked trails of varying distance and a small cafe for snacks/coffee afterwards.

The area of the Clent Hills is an outstanding place for walking (and exercising your dog, if you have one). From the Nimmings Wood pay and display car park (free to National Trust members), there are four marked trails, varying in length from just under two miles to four miles. At the start there is a wheelchair and pushchair friendly eays access path which takes you up to a toposcope (showing the features you can see from this spot), where there are also benches, from where there are marvellous views of the surrounding countryside. After the toposcope the paths become more up-and-down (and muddy when it's wet) but, if possible, you should not miss the "Four Stones" and the topograph (which indicates the direction and distance of the features you can see). Here, again, there are stunning views of the surrounding copuntryside. The "Rabbit Trail" path back to the Nimmings Wood car park, vis 'The Horse's Mane', is certainly not wheelcjair or pushchair friendly as it consists of a number of wide steps down to road level. Once you have made it back to the Nimmings Wood car park, refreshments and/or drinks are available from a cafe. There are also toilet facilities and a play area for children.

Nimmings Wood is a superb place to start or finish any walk around these beautiful hills.
The NT cafe serves brilliant and inexpensive bacon sandwiches.

My go to place to escape! Toast is amazing and amazing value cafe staff super friendly ! Carpark can get busy but believe there is another one detailed on NT website, always found the NT staff helpful and have shouted around the near by area to let people know they are shutting the Carpark but they obviously can’t go walking up the hill looking for people there’s a sign as you drive in clearly stating the closing time. Love you clent !!!

Councils can use section 27 of The Road Traffic Act 1988 to mandate leads on dogs. Most have on footpaths that have livestock along them. It saves the hassle of complaints from farmers in most cases.

I have ran and walked Clent Hills for over thirty years. Today whilst cross-country running around the Clent hills, I ran through a field up to Nimmings car park. Suddenly, I was shouted at by a warden from a long way to get my ex-guide dog on a lead because I "was breaking the law". My dog runs at heel and I was on a public footpath which passed through a field of cows which were on the other side of the field.
On returning, another warden shouted at me to get the dog on a lead as I was worring the cows which were nowhere near the footpath. I was shouted at and told that by my dog not being on a lead regardless that he was under close control meant that he would be shot (by who?) and the council would fine me (really?).
Totally unacceptable behaviour from two representatives of the NT.
If they cared to look at the law, a dog is not worrying livestock when walking or running to heel and is not required to be on a lead on a public right of way.
National Trust, you need to train your wardens to not treat everyone as if they are going to spoil the countyside.

We live within walking distance of the fabulous Clent Hills. We are very lucky. The hills have been very busy during the series of lockdowns and COVID restrictions which people are all aware of
Today we finished our walk and decided to have one of the amazing bacon sandwiches from the cafe, which has been shut for many months. Delicious sandwich but the taste was spoilt by the patronising attitude of a member of NT staff (not the friendly cafe staff I hasten to add)
Although takeaways and eating outdoors is allowed now, the NT staff have stopped people sitting on the benches and tables by erecting a FENCE! When I asked I was told it was because of the ‘Covid inspectors’. REALLY and that people buying from the cafe couldn’t be trusted to social distance!
We pointed out that other NT locations didn’t appear to have the same issue ! He had no answer and just walked off!

Hi, How far is the wildlife hide mentioned at Walton Hills? I can’t see any mention of it on any of the walking maps. Thank you :)

Hi I am also not sure if the carpark is 24/7. Its I think 3.50 to park or free if you have a national trust card. Plenty of room to park on the lane just before you go into the carpark. Enjoy your visit

Can you pay with card at the cafe

I’ve never seen any card readers there or even asked as we always paid using coins or notes.
As a precaution I would bring both cards and coins/notes along. The price for food there is reasonable

The hills never close, just some of the car parks do so check signs. Be careful it's unlit.

The name of the park gives people a clue as to its terrain, as well as the drive to the park and its geographical location is a massive clue that there will be hills!!!

I'm a student in Birmingham and I can't drive but I would really like to visit. Is there any way of getting there via public transport? If so, what is best?
Steven L
المملكة المتحدة290 مساهمة
Hi Martha, If you have access to a computer and can access Google Maps you can find routes using public transport to anywhere. Enter your start destination e.g. University of Birmingham. Next enter your destination e.g. Clent Hills Car Park. Next select the icon of the train and you'll get direction you can print for bus and trains e.g. walk to Queen Elizabeth Hospital (Stop QB) and get the 244 bus to Dudley > 4H to Hagley Green > walk up to Clent Hills Car Pak. Easy. Enjoy your time in the hills. Best regards, Steven
is there live stock on the walks and are dogs aloud of leads?

Didn't see any livestock but regardless all dogs need to be reliable off lead, its marked where your dog should be on a lead although as always people chose to ignore this. Responsible owners will enjoy visiting here. Just remember poop bags !
