‪Interesting tour in a renovated castle. The guide was very funny, asked fun questions and made sure the time flew by. The view from the castle is beautiful in sunny weather. Wear good, sturdy footwear because the road there is bumpy. If you expect authenticity, this is not the place for you. The original castle no longer exists after its destruction by Louis XIV.‬

‪We were very enthusiastic about the castle and its history. In a small group we were able to hear about when it was built or restored. The climb is worth it and we will definitely recommend this castle!‬

‪The walk to the castle is a nice false flat uphill...through a street, the last part is towards the gate of the castle.

We took a guided tour (otherwise you wouldn't be able to enter the castle itself) paid 17 euros for 2 adults...children under 4 are free. The tour lasted about 40 minutes and was okay... everything in German but easy to follow... there were also sheets available with explanations in other languages.

Don't know if the tour is also given in other languages, e.g. the high season.

A great tour for us and not too long for a 3 year old so he also enjoyed it.‬

‪Beautiful castle within walking distance from Cochem. Can only be entered with a (paid) guided tour. We had an enthusiastic guide who really showed us everything. Things that would normally not have been noticed. Beautiful view from the castle over Cochem and the Moselle.‬

‪This was a beautiful castle, especially decorated for Christmas. Set high on the hill behind Cochem, it's not as "rustic" as some, but very interesting to see. The views from the balcony were nothing short of spectacular. Our guide was excellent and the tour was very enjoyable.‬

‪The Reichsburg is in a very idyllic location, with the town of Cochem at its feet. We were there at the end of January and took part in a guided tour. Very informative, definitely recommended!‬

‪Beautiful castle. Nice walk of about 20 minutes to it. Beautiful view at the top. There are benches where you can rest for a while. Access only under supervision. That's why we didn't see anything from the inside of the castle. Too bad, because such a tour with a guide is really not our thing. Unfortunately, the restaurant and Panorama terrace are also closed during this period.‬

‪We had pretty good weather, so the view was great.
Also seen and heard a lot inside during the tour.
You can park your car fairly close by.‬

‪Beautiful castle that can be reached on foot. Guided tours in German and English. Information sheets available in many other languages such as Swedish, Arabic, Polish, Dutch, etc. On very busy days the tour is only in German.‬

‪According to the picturesque location,Cochem can compete with the most famous castle in Germany - Neuschwanstein. Of course, there are no German Alps (more precisely, the Ammergebirge) and lakes with pine trees and waterfalls. But there is a beautiful bend of the Moselle with terraces of vineyards rising up. Who likes what... But the main thing that Cochem has in common with his counterpart is that neither of them has anything to do with the Middle Ages. The mountains they stand on have, but they themselves do not. For by the beginning of the 19th century, there were ruins both there. And only the romantic fantasies of the owners of these ruins materialized in this beautiful Middle Ages. With turrets, bay windows, spiral staircases. The fictional Middle Ages. The German romantics of the end of the XVIII century - Novalis, Schlegels, Tieck, Eichendorf, von Kleist, would probably be proud of themselves if they saw the materialization of their dreams of the "new Middle Ages". In the case of Cochem, Louis-Jacques Ravené, a Berlin steel and iron wholesaler, acted as the savior angel instead of Ludwig II. As it is easy to see by name, a descendant of one of those thousands of Huguenots who fled France after the narcissistic "sun king" Louis XIV revoked the Edict of Nantes, which guaranteed the Huguenots equal rights by their Huguenot grandfather Henry IV. Ravené, who bought the castle from the Prussian land fund in 1868, got "a pentagonal main tower at the bottom, a square shape at the top and a round staircase tower decorated with medieval frescoes." In this form, the ruins stood for almost two centuries after it was blown up in 1689 by the French soldiers of Louis XIV, who had stormed it with heavy losses half a year before. In the age of artillery, there are no impregnable castles..In fact, the new castle was designed by architect Herman Ende with the help of Julius Rushdorff, who later designed the Berlin Cathedral. Ravené saw only the structure itself, the interior was already being finished after his death with his son.It turned out very beautifully. Both outside and inside. Of course, with such an architecture, it would not have been possible to defend such a castle even without artillery. And even kings did not have such interiors (see Chambord). But this is a fantasy on a theme, not a real historical object. A fantasy on which the town of Cochem has been successfully earning for almost a century and a half. You can already see the castle from the train station. You go to it gradually rising from the station to a height of more than 100 meters. You can't just get inside the castle - only with a German- or English-speaking group. It's not just here. The same thing, for example, in the Potsdam Sans Souci. English-speaking tours start at 11.30 am. and then every hour until 4:30 p.m. in summer. While waiting, you can have a snack or a drink at the castle tavern. It is held in the castle.a lot of all sorts of themed excursions on real topics like Christmas or fictional (some kind of horror) During the tour, you need to have time to listen, then when the group leaves the room, take a photo and catch up with the group. The interval between groups is 15 minutes. All this lasts 30-40 minutes and costs 8.50 €. . Reichsburg is open daily from 09:00 to 18:00 in summer and from 10:00 to 15:00 in winter.‬
