Des éléphants aimés, choyés et heureux, c'est ce que nous avons pu constater en faisant cette activité.
On ressent beaucoup de complicité entre les soigneurs et les 2 éléphantes.
Le prix comprend le repas du midi et un thé à la fin de l'activité.
On va à la rivière avec les éléphants, on marche avec eux, on leur donne à manger et on les câline. On a le temps de faire autant de photos que nécessaire.
Une super expérience que nous recommandons avec plaisir! 😁

We volunteered for 3 days . It was a memorable and very special experience.
The family are so nice and the staff also. You immediately feel at home. The food is very good .
Spending time in the company of Elephants is very special. They are such loving creatures and in an environment where no riding is permitted and every one is loving and gentle.
I will never forget our time here and hope to visit again soon.

Great place, lovely people, good food ans a nice accommodation. They treat the elephants very well. I think they found a good way to earn money, without disturbing the elephants to much. It is a good possibility to meet elephants in captivity without any guilty feelings.

Highly recommend staying with this project! It's the only project in all of Sri Lanka that is truly ethical and cares about the freedom and wellbeing of the elephants. The other places abuse them and only care about the money they make from tourism. I spent 3 days with the family and the elephants, it was one of most amazing experiences I've ever had in my life! The family are very sweet and kind people, and you can see how much the mahouts love the elephants! The elephants are such gentle and majestic creatures. You get to walk with the elephants, feed them and bathe them. Also the food is amazing!

My partner and I did an afternoon tour with the elephants and then stayed at the owners lovely home for the evening afterwards. It was our first night in Sri Lanka and the owners arranged a pick up straight from the airport for us. We got to the project early and were jet lagged but the lovely staff looked after us and gave us plenty of food and tea and allowed us to rest. We then had an incredible day with the two lovely elephants who were so happy and free and well looked after. Getting to see the elephants react and play like they would in the wild was a privilege and after an amazing walk and getting to feed and bathe them we were back to the house. We had a couple of hours to ourselves to explore and get a vital nap before the most delicious meal was cooked by the family. We then had a lovely night listening to the sounds of the animals and seeing wild mongoose amongst other things before the next day the family arranged our transport to Kandy ! All for a very reasonable price. A great way to start our holiday and It is a must for any elephant lovers. Thank you for a great time

Beautiful project where people with big hearts work and take care for the former captive elephants! Most precious experience I had so far! So recommendable! Would do it again! Must see when you're in Sri Lanka!

The project is amazing. They care for 2 previously abused elephants. We had the opportunity to bath the elephants, feed them and wall them. It was magical.

Wir haben lange nach einer Aktivität mit Elefanten gesucht die nichts mit den üblichen Massentourismus Angeboten zu tun hat. Ganz sicher waren wir uns im Vorfeld auch nicht wie es dann vor Ort sein wird, aber es war definitiv die richtige Entscheidung. Die beiden Elefanten Menike und Kumari gehören zur Familie. Die beiden wurden aus einem typischen Hotspot für Touristen (Elefantenreiten) geholt und leben nun bei der Familie auf dem Grundstück. Die Tiere können sich frei bewegen und sind nicht angekettet. Um das Leben der beiden Elefanten zu finanzieren werden die täglichen kleinen Touren mit den Touristen angeboten. Man darf die Elefanten füttern, mit ihnen spazieren und baden und kann ihn dadurch hautnah sein. Preis Leistung war super und wir hatten einen ganz tollen Vormittag. Auf jeden Fall weiterzuempfehlen!!!

A really magical place. First and foremost, they treat their elephants incredibly well and you can really tell. In addition, the trip is very intimate because there are only two elephants and only a handful of visitors. So we got to spend a lot of time really close to the elephants, walking with them, feeding them, bathing them. The guides were patient, helpful and knowledgeable.

Vielen Dank an die Familie und ihre Mitarbeiter die uns einen unvergesslichen Tag mit den zwei Elefanten ermöglichten. Die Elefanten werden zu nichts gezwungen und man erfährt viele interessante Details über diese majestätischen Tiere. Toll, dass dieses Projekt existiert und Kumari und Menike, die zwei Elefanten nicht für Arbeiten missbraucht werden. Man spürt, dass die Elefanten und ihre Mahouts im Einklang mit der Natur leben und man als Besucher ein Teil davon sein darf. Die Familie und ihre Mitarbeiter sind sehr herzlich und leben und lieben das Projekt. Ein Pflichtbesuch für naturverbundene Elefantenfreunde.

Me and my sister are travelling in June and would love to visit we are staying in cinnamon bey hotel, what would the best way of getting there be?

You will want to hire a car driver. It was a very slow 2 or 2.5 hours for us to drive there from Colombo through lots of traffic, and that time will be longer in a tuk-tuk. I believe The Elephant Freedom project has a recommendation on their site for a car booking. Just keep in mind most of the drivers you hire will be from the area you are driving from (so in this case, Colombo). They will be driving you to the Project and then driving back home again. You are paying for that, too.

That would not be possible, sorry. We like to minimize the amount of visitors and therefore require an online booking in advance. See our website to book.

Does anybody know where you get on the bus from Negombo to the elephant freedom project?

I got on at the main bus station. I was originally planning to go all the way to Kandy and it cost me 200rupees. I jumped off at Kegalle and got a tuk tuk from there but you may be able to get closer ie at the turn off road.

Hi All,
We are hoping to go to Sri Lanka and Maldives for our honeymoon. Can I ask how you built going to the Freedom project into your itinerary? Did you organise separate hotels in local areas? Did you go straight there from the airport or work your way over?
I'm just trying to figure out the best way to do it! we would like just one day at the project.

We stayed in Bentota (2 hrs from Colombo) and booked a driver to take us to EFP and back, it was 3hrs from there and back and cost around $100. From Colombo it is around 2 hours. EFP say they can arrange transport from Colombo or Kandy, worth contacting them depending on where you want to stay

I think the only difference is that in the morning session you are also cleaning the elephant bed, it means you are picking up her poo and throwing it away. In the afternoon there is nothing like that.
We stayed in EFP for all-day experience and it was by far the best as we had a complex experience together with visiting a local school and preparing a lunch with the owners.
what is the best way to get there from Colombo?

Hi , From Katunayake > Negombo > Nittambuwa Junction > and then Kandy Road. I think there are Negombo Kandy buses. But not sure about prices though, less than 500LKR
