Dit was oorspronkelijk onderdeel van Broederenklooster, maar door de gemeente in gebruik genomen als bibliotheek. Met oog voor historische details gerestaureerd. Is zeker een bezoek waard.

Deze zogenaamde kettingbibliotheek ligt in een mooie kerk. Met een gids kun je deze bezoeken en het is de moeite waard. De boeken liggen al eeuwen aan kettingen om diefstal te voorkomen. De meeste boeken stammen uit de tijd vlak na het uitvinding van de boekdrukkunst. Niet handgeschreven dus maar niet minder fraai. De gids vertelt enthousiast, over kerkelijke en wereldse details, zoals het boek van copernicus en de blote dame.

Vandaag met gids de librije en kerk bezocht, was zeer leerrijk en interessant met gids die weet wat er te ontdekken valt. Zeker aanrader bij bezoek vh mooie Zutphen

Wat was dit leuk en interessant, super om door een prive gids rondgeleid en alles zeer goed en leuk te krijgen uitgelegd

The chained library is open only to short tours with a guide.
Very rare piece of history - both in the building and in the books - that was well explained.
For just a few Euros - for church and library this is definitely worth a visit

If you are at all interested in historic libraries, this is a place you must go! First of all, you will enjoy the wonderful architecture in Zutphen as you are making your way to the St. Walburgis Church. Once there, you must purchase a ticket for the library which also entitles you to a lovely tour of the church. My tour group was small - three women passionate about books and history - and the tour guide shared our enthusiasm. Once inside the library area, she really brought the story to life - one interesting fact was that it wasn’t quiet in there because people were proud that they could read, so they would read out loud to demonstrate their prowess. I felt very emotional upon thinking how hard it would be to want to know more about the world, literature, the arts and yet have so few opportunities to acquire this knowledge. This was truly a memorable experience for me.

Leerzame en onderhoudende rondleiding door een kundige gids, welke uitleg geeft over de geschiedenis en het ontstaan van de Librije te Zutphen.
Verder vertelt hij e.e.a. over het gebouw en de daarin verborgen symboliek en over de bijzondere boeken die op de leestafels staan.
Ook vertelt hij het e.e.a over de boekdrukkunst en het boekbinden.
Kortom te veel om op te noemen.
De Librije in Zutphen bevindt zich in de Walburgiskerk, en is zeker de moeite waard om tijdens een bezoek aan de middeleeuwse Hanzestad Zutphen te gaan bekijken.
Verder vertelt hij e.e.a. over het gebouw en de daarin verborgen symboliek en over de bijzondere boeken die op de leestafels staan.
Ook vertelt hij het e.e.a over de boekdrukkunst en het boekbinden.
Kortom te veel om op te noemen.

Wat bijzonder dat dit bewaard is gebleven: een kettingbibliotheek waar grote folianten met ijzeren kettingen aan de lezenaars vastzitten tegen Middeleeuwse (en latere) dieven. Maar wel jammer dat alle boeken potdicht liggen.

We were lucky to join a tour in which the guide spoke English (she also continued in Dutch for the other person on the tour) to see the chained library. No photographs or touching is allowed, so it's nice that they have a chained facsimile of the Copernicus book outside the library that can be touched. The tour is perhaps 20 minutes in the library, and you may spend another hour or more in the adjacent church.
