Jolie coin de nature, de verdure.

Et alors, que fait la région ou le département ? Un joyau abandonné, mal indiqué alors que le site est à mettre au patrimoine mondial de l’humanité. Que font les Delga et autres décideurs de l’avenir de notre région et de l’argent public. Pourquoi le fléchage et le panneautage sont si minables. Le social est-il antinomique de l’histoire ou de la culture ? Je dis zéro pointé aux socialistes de l’Aude ou de la région Occitanie pour laisser perdre un tel patrimoine.

A very interesting elliptic lock on the Canal du Midi, built around 1670. It’s at the beginning of the descent towards Toulouse. It’s still in use for boats travelling on the Canal, and if you’re lucky enough to see it in operation, it seems like a hydraulic elevator.
There are beautiful parklands around this lock, part of the Nauroze area. This was recognised by the engineer Pierre-Paul Riquet (who designed and built the canal) as the highest point of the Canal. He did some pretty amazing work managing the rivers and streams in the area to enable the canal to function so well without disturbing local agriculture. In the area there are several walking paths along the canal, under avenues of magnificent plane trees, and to a monument erected in honour of Riquet. I’ve walked it in summer – the heat of the day is dimmed by the shade of the trees, many of which have been there since the 1830s. It’s equally beautiful in autumn, with gorgeous coloured leaves reflected in the water of the canal.
