We’ve walked the red squirrel trail numerous times. Decided today to explore the areas of interest, in particular the WW2 explosives test bunker. Firstly, the path is crap. What idiot thought to dump rocks so big that you’ll twist your ankle numerous times, and feel every single one under foot? And it’s like that the ENTIRE path. There is literally no signage advising you which way to go, or where said bunker is, we think we found it, but we couldn’t be certain because there’s no signs, and it’s just a cement foundation and some bits of metal sticking out. We eventually ran into another couple who complained of the same issue, how horrible the path was to walk on. The red squirrel trail has places to sit and relax, and is a much nicer walk. Don’t deviate from it and you’ll be fine. Don’t bother with any other part of the forest unless you enjoy pain.

2 adults and 1 teen all set for a few hours cycling exploring the 4 waterholes but only saw the first one.
Got around the first one (the Squirrel Trail) to the left of the car park, didn't see any squirrels but saw some enormous dragonflies at a pond area. The path here was fantastic with a few families and dog walkers here also, but the cycle took us a maximum 15 minutes.
We then started off again from the car park and this time headed straight up the steady path which within a couple of minutes comprised of such large rocks, we were skidding and felt it was damaging to the bikes and a bit of a fall risk as the rocks were the size of ballast on a train line. So after 5 minutes along the rough path, we headed back disappointed.
There are much much nicer places to go cycling that are a bit more bike friendly such as Tentsmuir.

We enjoyed our hour in the forest exploring the red squirrel tail. Sadly we never saw any squirrels just plenty of mushrooms.
A shortage of bins along the trails and parking prevented an excellent review.

A lovely walk wasted by a very poor path. I’m partially disabled and walk with elbow crutches. The paths have been refurbished with hardcore which I found extremely uncomfortable to walk on since it was mainly far too large a grade for hiking on. It seems to have been just dumped and simply raked down. A path done on the cheap. None of it appears to have been rolled over and it is dangerously precarious loose underfoot with some of them”chunks” big enough to build a house with. Okay a slight exaggeration but you get my drift. Even my husband turned an ankle slipping on the stuff. Never been so thankful to make it back to the car park as I could barely walk another step after doing one of the trails. We most certainly will not be coming back until sorted!

Went mainly to take photos but the weather was poor meandered off the main trails which was fun managed to have to cross a stream in our bare feet great adventures and great location

Many tracks to follow throughout the forest. Some of the main pathways are a bit hard (and sore) underfoot because of the hardcore surfacing - large stones! Once off these pathways the walking becomes much easier. Good parking facilities.

Go dog walking all the time great safe please to walk you dog and kids. Different routes and walks. Can take bikes up too

My husband and I seen this walk on walkhighlands, and decided to give it a go. The start point and car park is easy to find, the car park is limited and has dodgy /holey terrain. The start of the walk the red squirrel route, and round the first 2 loch’s was easy to follow. However we lost our way at the 3rd loch (which we managed to get back by retracing our steps), on the 4th loch we got totally lost and it started raining. The route is hard to follow at places round the 3rd and 4th loch’s as there are lots of cross roads and options, with limited landmarks/guide points. There were no maps in the car park so we did rely on GPS in our phones to get back to the car park! We were out for just shy of 4 hours. Although you can cut that a lot shorter by following different routes - and not getting lost!!!!

Very easy to get to with good car parking. There are lots of forest roads and some paths that make it easy to create walks of different lengths. There's a couple of reservoirs that are nice to walk around too. We picked and ate lots of brambles, raspberries and blueberries as we went round. Surprisingly quiet and not as busy with people as I thought it might be.

Great area to walk around. Have to agree with others about the dog poo. Such a shame lazy dog walkers spoil it for others
