‪We went by road in our own car from Mysuru. The distaance iss around 80 km from Mysuru to Givindanahalli via Pandavapura, KR Pet and Kikkeri. The temple is located about 5 km from Kikkeri in a beautiful village surroundings.
It is a 12th century temple build in a sprawling ground by the side of a lake. When we enter inside the temple, we land in a long pillared hall which is very beautiful. There are five Shiva lingas in five different Garbhagrihas side by side opened to the pillared hall. Each linga is named after different names of Lord Shiva (Vamadeva, Aghoreshwara, Eshaneshwara etc). There is a Ganesha idol near Vamadeva Garbhagriha which makess metallic sound.
The temple is well maintained by Archeological Survey of India (ASI). There will be special Poojas on Mondays and Shivrathri day.
It is a worth visiting place.‬

‪It is located in one small village. No crowd to deal with , as a pleasant change.
There is caretaker present to take care of the property and to show around.
There are 5 lingas / Basava with 5 chamundeshwari and five 5 Ganapathi idols. It is not extensively carved as Belur or Halebidu but a nice escape and drive in the interior with nature around.‬

‪The Hoysala Kings are famously known for their great temples in Karnataka. They were religiously were tolerant and encouraged all faiths. Even though followers of vaishnavism, they have built many shaiva temples. Panchalingeshwara temple is another example of it and arguably unique in terms of its architecture. Traditionally, most of the temples have a maximum of 3 shrines but here it has 5 shrines - Ishanyeshwara, Tatpurusheshwara, Aghoreshwara, Vamadeveshwara and Sadyojateshwara. Panchalingeshwara in kannada means 5 lingas. The temple complex is huge and well maintained. This is a must visit for followers of Hoysala architecture.‬

‪We visited this temple last weekend. Started from Bengaluru by 6:30 and had breakfast at New Anand Bhavan, Koppa. We opted for Hebbal - Yelahanka - Nelamangala - Kunigal - CR Patna route. The roads were in good condition and we reached Govindanahalli by 10AM.

This temple is constructed around 1238 AD during the Hoysala period and houses 5 lingas, 5 nandis, Ganesha and Parvati idols. The insides of the temple doesn't have sufficient lighting and we had to rely on the flashlight on our phone. The exterior of the temple is extremely ornate with intricately designed structures. It has 5 kutas- this being a rarity in Hoysala architecture. Also the temple is built on the ground unlike the others built on raised platforms. A lot of renovation had been made by the ASI to keep the temple intact.

A good place for day outing. You can combine this with Brahmeshvara Temple, Kikkeri and Lakshmi Narayana Temple, Hosaholalu.

‪This is a ASI protected monument and as the name suggests, this temple houses 5 different types of Shiva Lingas under one roof (with seperate Sanctum Sanctorum for each of them of course).

Each of the Shiva Linga has an accompanying Nandhi just outside the Sanctom Sanctorum which is just as unique as the Lingas. The carvings on the Nandhi is pretty good and you can make out that the floral designs and the ornaments carved onto them are different from each other.

In addition to the Shiva Lingas and the Nandhi idols, there are also some Ganesha and other statues that are quite good and well carved.

The ASI is currently working on restoring this temple and you can find some parts of the temple still inaccessible due to ASI construction activity.

This is probably not the way the original structure looked or the most accurate layout, but the idols and other artifacts that the ASI team is currently working to install is bringing it as close to the original as possible.

The temple is not comparable with other old Hoysala temples in grandeur, style, architecture or complexity. A pity that I could not find any of the ASI officials around to clarify & the caretaker was not even sure if the other idols being used were found at the same location or brought together from different sites. The lack of information notwithstanding, the temple does provide you with a chance of having the Darshan of 5 unique Shiva Lingas & 5 Nandhis under one roof which is quite unique in Hoysala architecture.

Overall, a good visit with family and friends!‬
