The museum is currently being strengthened to resist earthquakes and so is not accessible for the time being. You can still examine the station building and signal box (exterior). Both are worth a look and Steam Inc. is just next door, which is also worth a look.

This was an interesting museum tucked inside the train station. There was info about the local Maori tribe, the role the train station used to play on the long passenger haul trains, learned about the bell that went to war, and information on the US Marines time in the area. At the end of the museum is a great little used bookstore with books on many different subjects.

We called in while waiting for the train. The building sits in the middle of the platform and you must cros the train lines to get there.The museum is free so worth popping in for a look although the collection is small. It’s is set up in an interesting style and leads to a very old second hand bookshop with lots of treasures.

We were just passing through Paekakariki and saw the sign for the museum. We thought the station must be closed so we were surprised to see it was the main line with trains going into and out of Wellington. The museum was small but full of interesting things and information. Well worth a visit. Thank you.

Interesting items, books, maps and paraphernalia. A well informed person in charge the day we went. Spent a fascinated hour or so. Let our train go by in order to explore some more.

Driven past many times, but had never been to this station.Was picking people up that had just done a steam train ride.Museum was really interesting.Great old pictures and some great old history of the Kapiti area.

It passed the time nicely while waiting for our train.
It has a loop train running around the roof which the women turned on for us.
Interesting history of Paekakariki.
Been meaning to have a look for ages so tick, done it now.
Worth a look if you’re in that neck of the woods.

this is about the train station stop-off called petticoat junction. Great place to sit in the warmth with a hot drink and look at the museum pieces laying about

If you're interested in the rich history of the Kapiti Coast, this is a must, and for anyone -- Kiwi, American or other -- who is the least bit interested in World War II, this is a must-must. The museum's small, but detailed exhibition about the American military camps in the Paekakariki area from 1942-1945 is both informative and exceptionally moving. Be sure to watch the touching videoclips that bear testimony to how this town's world was forever changed when the Yanks showed up. Well done, Paekakariki, and thank you for the hospitality you showed those guys years ago, and that you showed me just recently.
