We've probably been here about five times now and the man and lady who run the place seem really nice and friendly. We always have such a lovely time here and our children are able to interact with the animals and feed them. I think visiting a farm is educational for children as it opens up a lot of questions and they can learn a lot. Some of the animals seemed hungry but I was assured they were fed plenty. The girl said the calves for instance had 3 big bottles of formula a day and then like a calf cake. In an ideal world the calves would be with her mums milking but humans obviously have cow milk so sadly this can't be the case. But again this can open up a discussion with children to help educate. The play areas are good fun and their Halloween events are always enjoyable. The cafe is cheaper than Costa. I think the entry fee is very reasonable too compared to other farms. My children love it here so I'm sure we'll be back.

Witnessed the most awful interaction at a Halloween event leaving a family in tears. I couldn’t believe that a grown man would refer to himself as ‘the boss’ and proceed to ‘go and get your own pumpkins from Tesco’ after not letting a family take their pumpkin with them home to finish decorating, as they were in a rush. Shocking.

Visited with my family - 4 adults, 5yr old, 3yr old and 1yr old. Walked around the farm and the kids played - we told the kids we would do the pumpkin carving before we left.
Unfortunately during our visit, my husband was informed that sadly his grandad had passed away and so we had to cut our visit short. We hadn't told our children our news so not to ruin their day out so we went to the pumpkin activity to claim our pumpkins (using our vouchers) as they had been so excited about this so we could carve them at home that night and not further spoil their day. At this point, my husband was told we were unable to take the pumpkins because it was a free onsite only pumpkin activity. I thought this must be incorrect so went to speak to a member of staff again about this.
After explaining our situation to "the boss" as he called himself, there was absolutely no empathy towards our situation and he could clearly see our 2 children were visibly upset about this. He responded by saying that he had paid £1.50 to get his pumpkins here and if we take them off site then he may run out by Tuesday. He then told us that the carving was to be done on site (before taking them home) and that we could buy our own from a supermarket on the way home instead. He said it was offered as a free activity and not a paid one to which I explained I had specifically come to the farm park and paid £48.50 plus approx £12 on drinks so that my children could take part in the halloween activity which was advertised. He said I had been there long enough anyway (we had been there 2 and a half hours including our lunch/drinks break - technically could have been there upto 7 based on the opening hours). We therefore left with 2 young children who were extremely upset because they couldn't understand why they couldn't have their pumpkin using their voucher. They were also upset because we hadn't been told about the spooky trail until I had to ask very late into our visit. We assumed it was a walk through trail around the farm (near the pumpkin area) but instead we should have been given the trail sheet at the entrance.
I have visited here before but I will never visit again after our interaction with "the boss". There was absolutely no attempt to help in our unfortunate situation and in my mind an absolute illogical approach to this event. I personally believe (for the sake of £3 worth of pumpkins) there should have been some consideration and discretion.

Lovely day out to Hesketh Farm Park yesterday. Staff friendly, animals appeared very well cared for. Lots of opportunity to interact with different animals during the day. Tractor ride with the farmer was an unexpected highlight for everyone as well. Exceeded our expectations so happy to recommend with lots to do for younger children and families.

Good at taking money from city dwellers! Overpriced - 3 years and up pay adult fee to enter A few sad looking calves and some guinea pigs. Save yourself taking out a second mortgage, stop at the local pet shop, and spend some of the money you saved on some fish and chips.

I have two children aged 7 and 10 and it is a few years since we have visited Hesketh Farm, but it has really gone down hill. Last time we came there was real care and attention given to the small animals but now that is really sadly lacking in what felt really exploitative.
There were over thirty chicks being raised in a small glass case and 3 of them were dead and being walked over.
Last time we came, there were set times for handling guinea pigs, the rules were explained to the kids and a small number were selected for grooming with careful supervision.
This time out of the 50 guinea pigs there were about 20 guinea pigs out on the hay bales, a very slow rotation in place, 2 workers stood in the middle and a free for all for the kids of all ages petting them. Guinea pigs were being chased around to be picked up, if the parents were distracted the guinea pigs were getting frequently mishandled.
One of the guinea had visible sores on their back and was still being selected for "grooming". Others had severed ears, hair loss or were visibly suffering from the heat. The play area was good but we won't be coming back because the whole experience with the chickens and guinea pigs was sad and disturbing.

We were disappointed to read your review and wonder why you didn’t speak to a member of staff during your visit if things were so dreadful!
Just to clarify certain allegations - the small glass case you refer to is 90 egg incubator with 5/6 eggs hatching per day and there have been no dead chicks this summer and we have been delighted with our hatching rates.
We have never offered set times for guinea pig grooming at Hesketh, it has always been that children can sit with them on their knees with staff watching over them.

Just such a nice place, plenty of outdoor space for the kids to run and play, suited our 9, 7 and 1 year olds perfectly. It was so nice to see them interact with the animals, great price too and plenty to do for a good few hours

Great day out, good food, large spaces, great service, went long before the Covid rubbish hit the scene so can't say more about post covid.

Went with my 2 year , and he was constantly entertained, feeding the lambs, grooming and hold the guinea pigs, feeding the donkeys, we missed out of calf and chic feeding probably because we was busy with the tractor ride, maze, play area, sand pit, mini tractors, sitting in the real tractor or just playing music plenty to do and they have oat milk , small food range so would bring a pack lunch

Is it walking distance if you go on the train from Embsay to Bolton Abbey? It says it looks out on it but not sure how far it is from where the train stops!

Not really unless you fancy walking 2-2.5 miles from Embsay & Bolton Abbey St (?) and part of the journey will be A/B roads.
You're better of getting a taxi for what will then be a short journey.
Save your energy for walking around Hesketh Farm Park and enjoying the views and interaction with the animals.
