free walk around the woods. good views of the castle and a stream.plenty of wildlife. worth doing if in the area

After a recommendation we called for a walk one Sunday and weren’t disappointed. Lovely walk with options for different routes, lots of local wildlife and friendly people also walking around. A very nice way to spend a couple of hours getting some steps in and enjoying the scenery.

A floresta que cerca o castelo de Skipton permite trilhas e caminhos diferentes, todas com paisagens maravilhosas. Vale muito a pena.

Free. Great network of paths, mostly by the river. Bridges and waterfalls, canals and rivers. Seats too. Easy access from the town near the top of the high Street.

Beautiful walk around the woods and surrounding areas today. Very clean and well maintained and looked after. I went during the week and it was very quiet.

The walk starts on the canal bank walking towards the castle. You walk along the canal bank passing the back of Skipton Castle . You pass the remains of industrial areas and enter the woods. The path carries on past ponds with ducks swimming on them. The wooded Valley sides are full of different wild flowers throughout the year. At the end of the valley you take the path up the righthand side and come back along the top of the woods. You eventually come out onto the road, turning right and coming back into the main street of Skipton by the side of the Castle gates.
This is one of our favourite walks and we always end the walk with coffee and cake in one of the many coffee shops.

This is such a beautiful area to visit, can get busy at times but worth the trip. Been here many times at different times of year and doesn't disappoint.

I'm sure this is heaving in the summer but this really is a woodland walk full of atmosphere, bird song (I saw tree creepers!!) - all my favourite things: birds, castles, history, water, different terrains, woodland flowers. Just gorgeous

This is a great place to enjoy a good walk through. It was raining but that doesn't matter it's still amazing.

Many parts of the pathways are steep and some sections narrow, so I wouldn't say it's suitable for anyone on bikes.

Hi is the walk accessible for double buggies? I’m a childminder and we love walks but needs to be able to take a pushchair.

Thank you for your question. It would be possible to access the wood via Chapel Hill but it is very steep in places.
Unfortunately, the canal tow path which leads to the woodland has a very narrow section which would not accommodate a double buggy.
The yellow route in the woodland is surfaced with compacted hard core and suitable for pushchairs.

Enjoy your visit Karen. All our woodlands are free entry although if you wish to support our work standing up for trees and maintaining woodlands like Skipton, you can make a donation to us at any time on our website.
If you are visiting the castle, there is an admission charge. It's well worth a visit too.
