‪Erect some signs on the Nature Walks and either change your Car Park Company or make them change their system (see below).

The first requisite for anywhere that calls itself a 'Country Park' is some signposted walks, preferable a choice of length and grade. There is nothing. There is a very old sign in the window of the Cafe, but the routes it refers to can no longer be found or followed. We actually took ourselves on what we thought was the 'Red Route' around the Deer Park. When we got back the kind lady in the Cafe told us we had actually walked way beyond the so-called Red Route through private Estate land. She asked if we had been told off by the Woodman or Gamekeeper. We hadn't met either so we were lucky!

The Car Park system is designed to catch people out and make money for the company, not to collect a fair charge from visitors. It purports to be a modern ANPR system, but it only half is. There is no link between the ANPR part and the Pay Machine so it is not an ANPR *SYSTEM*. On a proper ANPR system, you go to the Pay Machine when it is time to leave, type in your Car Number and it tells you how much to pay. You then have a set amount of time to leave. Here, the Pay Machine does not know when you arrived so it tells you nothing. You have to make a calculation of how much to pay, enter your car number and then put in what you think is the right amount. Back at base, the company compares information from the ANPR side with the amount you paid in. If you got the calculation wrong by, say, failing to allow for the time each way between the car park and the cameras (wherever they might be - I have no idea) you will be 'fined' (I would call it robbed) £100.
Even when you have paid, there is no reassurance that you have got it right as the ticket only says when you bought it - not when you arrived or left. It really is a nightmare and it is absolutely un-necessary. The company could set it up as a proper linked SYSTEM - so why haven't they? I can only conclude they want you to get it wrong and receive an outrageous fine.‬

‪The most spectacular visit to a very special gem on our doorstep here in Carmarthenshire. @goldengrovegelliaur

Today I strolled around the magical land at Gelli Aur, a place I was taken to as a young child and have very fond memories of which were reignited by todays visit, especially the time I fell into their pond and was given a jumper to replace my trousers 🤣!

Thank you to the lovely team in the cafe for the freshly made omelette and extensive knowledge of the land and future project plans!

Would love to hear anyone else’s memories of this magical place x

‪Gelli Aur are now providing a fortnightly storytelling session.
I went along on Sunday 19 September to hear Sid, the Bard in training, tell stories and play his flute in the Arboretum.
I discovered that Sid is a local amateur historian with a wealth of local knowledge and folklore.
Will definitely be going along to his next session on 3 October.‬

‪Visited on a whim having seen on map as a "country park". No entry fee but car park £1.50 for 2 hours (new looking parking meters, and can pay via phone app). First impressions good, nice looking cafe next to car park. Smart toilet block (lights do come on when you go inside!). Tantalising view of run down mansion. Then it all went downhill. (1) Walk towards mansion, sign on gate saying private, no access to mansion or grounds. (2) Follow path on online map round south of mansion towards gazebo, path gets increasingly overgrown, deer in undergrowth, path completely disappears. (3) follow very old coloured arrow sign east of car park, short walk through woodland and old quarry to gate to deer park (padlocked), back up to access road through meadow to car park. New well equipped play area near car park (wtih old play equipment dumped next door). What looks to be a former education centre in use as a wood store. No signage whatsoever other than the Private notice and the very old coloured posts. In short, the "country park" is limited to an expensive car park, playground, cafe, toilets, small meadow area and short woodland walk.Might be worth a visit with young kids to play outside and do a short walk.‬

‪Do not waste your time with this place. I last visited as a kid, and my god what a disappointment. No signs, it's overgrown, paths stop suddenly, you have to pay to see the Arboretum, if its like the rest of the place, save your money. Only good thing was nice tearoom staff but this shut at 4, on a bank holiday. As for the toilets I didn't dare brave them, it looked really dark inside, I decided to wait til the services on the M4‬

‪The parking machine was cash only as broken for cards. You could pay over the phone but system crashed repeatedly, to then find out you can pay in cafe £1.50 for WHOLE day but had I had cash £4 on machine for whole day!!! - no signs saying you could pay in cafe.

Only sign was to say it was extra to walk round gardens by house. No signs showing other walks etc no maps, no information, was run down scruffy and a waste of time and badly organised. A shame as could be really lovely.

Don't waste your time or money there's much better places locally.‬

‪We had a lovely afternoon exploring Gelli Aur house with our tour guide Frances. The house itself is very interesting with some intricate details. Frances is lovely and has a wealth of knowledge about it's history. Due to years of neglect before the Golden Grove Trust took over, parts of the house require restoration which made the visit really different and more of an urban explorer experience so quite exciting wandering around abandoned corridors, stairs and cellars. Afternoon tea back at the café was delicious, lots of food with homemade fluffy scones to finish and great and friendly service. Excellent value for money and something so unusual not to be missed. Thank you Frances for a great experience.‬

‪Can beat LaEleanor's experience, I apparently overstayed by 3 minutes!! and got a Parking Charge Notice for £100. However if you do decide to visit (we won't be again, even though grounds and cafe were very good), you need to know that your parking time starts as soon as you drive through the gates, NPR photographs you as you enter, then leave. We thought the 2 hour parking was from when we bought the ticket at the machine in the parking area, to the time we left, not so. You need to add about 20 minutes to ensure you get in and out on time. Lovely setting, great food & coffee in Cafe.‬

‪The arboretum is beautiful. There is a separate charge for the car park, which is run by a private car parking company. Be very careful not to outstay your time in the car park . Being stung for £100 for overstaying by 17 minutes has put me off going there again.‬

‪We have visited the cafe and playground a couple of times while staying local. Really friendly staff in cafe with really tasty food and perfect Welsh views. Kids loved the playground and board games in cafe. Some amazing trees in grounds. You can also pay to look around the mansion but we didn't do that. ‬
