Some parts not really suitable for wheelchair access.
Some climbs quite strenuous.

Visited here on recent trip to Carrickfergus, lovely place for walking the dog but very easy to get lost as not sign posted very well. There’s an outside gym which is very good and it has a small stream running through the wood which was nice.

Looking for some where different to walk the dogs. And found this. Parked in car park on oakfield drive. Got lost a few times as there was so many different bridges and paths to follow. And no sign posts. Great place to explore. Will definitely visit again as there are fields and other routes to explore. Only negative is there is not that many dog bins. Only saw 1 at car park.

Do people know there’s a stupendous tree in Carrick, one that might even be taller than the spire of St. Nicolas Church?
I like Bashfordsland wood. From the downhill / eastern entrance its a great walk up through a green glade. This time we made it as far as the quaint stone bridge, and the forever-surprising redwood. We had gone specifically to find it, but somehow this colossus manages to hide until, "ah!" there it is. Towering thing. Do keep your eyes open for the comical face sculptures that turn fungus shelves into crooked mouths. Lots of bird song and unfurling ferns in May. There was an odd brick structure that had us scratching our heads. The big draw, of course, are the stands of different flowers, the knotted trunks of trees, the apparent tranquility of a forest glen, all in the middle of some housing estates.

I walk my dogs here nearly everyday. There is plenty of routes to mix it up with them, there is a river that runs through it and makes for some lovely pictures

I attend this open green space that has a mix of woodlands, glades, grasslands and small pond habitats on a regular basis with the Friends of Carrickfergus Bashfordlands Wood and Oakfiend Glen Volunteers who meet on the 2nd Saturday every month. Just recently I was at the opening of this area as a local nature reserve and I can understand why it should be a local nature reserve as it contains a number of important species like bats, badgers and grey herons. It is a big site and is maybe only a mile up the road nestled within an area of housing from Carrickfergus Town Centre so it is in walking distance. Hopefully it can be improved upon such as improving the river and maybe extending the small ponds but we will see how it progresses in the future. I recommend everybody takes a trip up to it if they are in the Carrickfergus area for a considerable time and also the locals should go see it because I guarentee that alot of them possibly don't even know it exists in their town because it is so well hiden.

Go here every day as it is very close to my home ! It is a lovely place to go to get some head peace and quiet !! If it has been raining better to wear waterproof boots as it's very mucky ! Dogs are walked here and most are kept on leash some run free so be prepared for the odd dog coming up to you !! There are lovely walkways beside rivers and leading down to Prince Andrew Way ! There is an outdoor gym as well if you can find the energy !! Enjoy !

Lovely natural mix of young and older trees. Great pathways and you can choose your own length of walk but they may vary from half a mile to 3 miles. It can be a bit messy so wear your wellies! Access from Oakfield Road ( several spots) and Prince Charles Way adjacent to the old mansion at Glynn Park. Car parking at each end. You might see lots of grey squirrels on some days.

The Prince Andrew Way entrance is not visible from the road. You can park for free at the big complex with the Topaz garage and The Friary, and walk back in the northerly / Whitehead direction to find it hidden in the bushes down beside the road. I’ll include photos to show the spot.
That entrance takes you to a muddy section of track, very dark in places. On one tree where great fringes of fungus were growing some artist had added eyes to make a face. There was soon a paved walkway which runs the rest of the way uphill. There is a stream to the left, and there was a spot all cluttered with litter. There were lots of side trails going off into the woods on both sides. To the left was a bridge. It was a dull day in August. Lots of bird song, plus one bicyclist coming down hill. I met several dog walkers, all off their leads, running free.
There are choices of tracks further up, and on one there is a huge redwood tree that stands head and shoulders above all others. There are six possible entrances / exits, so I wasn’t able to explore all the different routes. I left on the one at Oakfield Drive. Parts of the wood are dark and some people might not like that. I found the place peaceful. I liked it. Free entry.

This is where I go to get some fresh air and chill ! Love the ponds dotted about ! There is an outdoor gym in good working order! The pathways are kept well and are even good enough to run on !
