A small parking area makes access simple and obvious. This was a nice little visit with an open building allowing visitors to walk through the various “rooms” of the friary.

Excellent example of an ancient Friary and in a beautiful setting on the banks of the Moy.
Worth the diversion if you are travelling from Ballina to Killala as it is a fascinating and well preserved ruin (in that ruins can be well-preserved, you get my gist!)
We cycled and had the place to ourselves to take time to drink it in and imagine what life must have been like as a place of work and worship in the 15th century.
Highly recommended.

We rented bikes from Ballina Bike Hire and stopped here on the way to Killala. Beautiful spot! Make sure to look for the Moyne Abbey too, it is a little further down the road!

Die Ruine dieses Franziskanerklosters ist noch gut erhalten. Um 1400 von der Familie der Joyce´s gegründet, aber schon um 1450 wieder verlassen. Ein wenig abseits der großen Touristenströme des Wild Atlantic Way´s ist diese Abtei malerisch am Fluß Moy gelegen. Wer hier unterwegs ist, sollte die (ca. 5 km nördlich von Ballina) gelegene Abtei, sowie die unweit davon stehende Moyne Abbey (ca.12 km nördlich von Ballina) auf jeden Fall besuchen und die unglaubliche Stille in diesen Mauern genießen! Das berührt die Seele!

Amazingly quiet area with fantastic views of the lake. The friary is beautiful, very peaceful atmosphere.

Hadn't been here in a few years but it still was as good as I remembered. Great views of river and the friary itself is fantastic. The kids loved it

Easily found by following the signs. A perfectly intact and maintained ruin. Clamber thru the low doorwayed rooms to marvel at the stonework and arching windows.

Located literally right on the water this old burnt out friary/monastic settlement is part of Irish history.The OPW did a nice job with several signs that give a very good history of the site.You can explore nearly all the site,except for the bell tower(gated for safety).

It is a bit remote but if it is on your way, I would recommend a stop there. Very beauitufl ruin, and not many people visiting, so good opportunity for pictures.

A Stop on a bike tour. This was yet another special place to explore that was clearly respected as it was clean and there was no trash (like I saw unfortunately at other touristy type places). You wonder how these people lived their lives as you explore and imagine what it all looked like when it was whole....
