Fantastic example of Irish links golf. Even better when the weather cooperates, but great fun if you’re prepared to experience a little Irish weather too. Yeah, yeah. 😊

My son and and had a wonderful experience last September(sorry for the delay) at the Island and Portmarnock on the same day. Unfortunately the day was the tail end of a hurricane/windstorm that hit the Dublin area. My son somehow knew the folks in the shop and they sent us out on the back nine first as the weather was getting really bad.
How bad was it Johnnie? It was so bad that a few flagsticks were pulled from their cups and were rolling down the fairway. Despite the wind, I was able to par the 13th, a par three directly into the wind and had a birdie on 14 which had the narrowest fairway of the 7 courses(8 rounds) we played-all the top links courses in both Northern Ireland and the Republic. Great Fun!!
If you are looking for a course with large dunes in the Dublin area, this is it. All the holes were clearly defined and had that rough and tumble look to them.
It was so windy that they closed the course when players reached the turn and for us, that was after 18. I really wanted to play the front, but it was not to be.

On our second day, of a week of Irish golf, we played The Island Golf Club.. This is a true links course, right on the Irish sea, and absolutely beautiful.. We were fortunate enough to be able to play 36 holes on this day.. we walked all 36.. This course is challenging, but fun to play.. Paul in the pro shop, Steve and Dave made us feel welcome and gave us some tips on how to play this course...We finished with a late lunch and found it to be outstanding.. This would be #1 on my list of courses to recommend when playing golf in the Dublin area.. Thanks to all who made this a great experience

My friend and I played The Island last week. We very much enjoyed it even when it was wet and windy. Staff were very nice and helpful.

Great fun, good course, some challenging holes, excellent caddy, well stocked pro shop, good driving range balls free, nice lunch

A group of us played 8 rounds of golf in Ireland in 8 days. Looking at our itinerary I would not have guessed that the Island Golf Club would have been one of my favorites, but we all loved it! (Note that we also played Royal Portmarnock, Waterville, Tralee, Royal Portrush, Royal County Down, etc. so the Island Golf Club was in some pretty heady golf club company.) It was probably the biggest positive surprise of the trip and I'm very happy we had a chance to play the course. Since I'm lucky enough to visit Dublin once a year, I can't wait to play there again in 2020.

Had a great time at the Island Golf Club yesterday. Our caddie Sam was outstanding; young man with perfect yardages and eagle eye ball spotting. The track is truly amazing, links golf but accessible for a mid-handicap person. Steve Craig in clubhouse gave us a personal tour of the lengthy history of the club including the lineage that he is a part of. I highly recommend this course, even given it will be only 9 holes while a renovation happens on the front nine. For true Irish hospitality, choose The Island!

This is a spectacular course. Staff is great!! Must see for any golfer. Call out to Sam our caddy who knew the course so well and was a huge help!!

An absolutely fantastic links course only rivaled by the hospitality of the staff. On arrival we were given a tour of the clubhouse and a history of the club. The round could not have been more enjoyable and lunch afterwards was excellent .

From the first to the 18th this was a spectacular golf experience, the true Irish coastal terrain, seemingly untouched landscape except for some of the narrow fairways and beautiful greens, Steve,I believe the caddy master, when out of this way to show us the incredible history of one of the greatest golf courses in Ireland, possibly the world. Our caddies knew the course so well, that even though many of your shots are blind shots, they would know exactly where to look through their experience and knowledge of the course.
A must do, and words fall short to describe a spectacular track.
And flying our flag (USA) honoring us as guests was a wonderful touch.
