‪Take a tour with Ribtrips and ask if Lucy, the marine biologist is available to accompany you. It's a wild ride, but safe enough for the over 50s. Not for little ones. Dolphins swam alongside, we explored the calf, cow and bull rocks as well as some caves. Fabulous.‬

‪The Bull Rock lies at the outer edge of Kenmare Bay. In legend it was known as the gateway to the other world. Over a century ago a lighthouse was built there. The rock is home to a small colony of Atlantic Gannets. The nearby Skellig Rocks get all the attention but the bull is spectacular too. It is only approachable by boat and only when the Atlantic Ocean is tame enough. The diving is spectacular but only for the experienced. These Wild places can never be tamed. They are perhaps the best representations of a coastal Ireland long past gone. The accompanying photos are but a small glimpse into this ancient world. Best bet to visit thecrock is to contact John O'Shea at Derrynane. He operates Skellig tours out of Bunavalla but can take you or a group to the Bull Rock. Landing is not possible but a trip through the sea arch is amazing.‬

‪Bull Rock just off Dursey Island is the largest of three rocky islands called The Bull, The Cow and The Calf and is dominated by a light house. A feature of the rock is the large cavern through which trawlers and other fishing boats can pass under the lighthouse.

According to our driver/guide, legend has it that this is the entrance to the underworld. We didn't go out onto the water, but sitting on the shore for a few minutes, I let my imagination wander and entered the cave -- it was increasingly foggy and I could imagine the brimstone and fires -- until demands of moving on arose.

A very reflective moment on a marvelous drive.‬

‪Ancient beliefs by inhabitants of South Kerry claim that the hole - passage in the bull rock was a passageway to the other world, Superstition claiming seafarers who were known to have passed through this passage had fallen over the horizon - The edge of the world ..True or not it is a great experience to visit the bull rock, I departed from Beal Tra ,in Derrynane harbour, like the small Skellig it is a Ganet Colony with thousands of bords nesting there , Simply a wonderfull site. There were also many seals sun bathing on the rocks.‬
