The whole place was fantastic and the 3 kids really enjoyed it and asked if they would like to visit again they replied 100%. I have recommended Tropical World to a lot of my friends. We will definitely return.

What a little hidden gem. Loads of parking, a tea rooms, florets and garden centre too. All the animals where kept so well and their enclosures where great. I've never seen such inquisitive monkeys. The staff where friendly and the place was so clean. Walking through the butterflies was amazing. There is a small shop for toys and drinks and a seating area where you can bring a picnic. There is also a large place area which looked great. I'd definitely recommend and I will definitely go back.

We had the best time visiting Letterkenny’s Tropical World. Quite an unexpected place for the area. The people there are very knowledgeable and very friendly. The animals are beautiful and fun to watch. We took a lot of great closeup pictures. Highly recommended whether you have kids or not.

I can't find many things to like here.. Animals' cages are small, I doubt they feel ok with their space. :( People should think about it before write positive reviews. I feel sooo sorry about these poor guys in their tiny living space! So small flying space for all birds! I deeply regret to bring my son to see this zoo park, obviously I explained that those circumstances and conditions are NOT ok at all!

I’m a bit surprised at all the positive reviews for this place. I’ve visited many animal parks in various countries and this was one of the least appealing and animal friendly ones I’ve seen in some time.
A large number of the insect pens had fake plants and no real plants in them, which for a permanent housing I thought was a bit sad. I saw one pen that had loose wiring on the floor. I’m not a biologist but the living spaces for the other animal types (barring the butterflies) seemed restrictive, esp. the poor Japanese squirrel. Some animals did not seem to have an area to retreat from the audience (e.g. two parrots who basically had a grassy piece of ground plus some elevated wooden structure to sit on). Some animals could be touched through the fencing if they sat against it, for example some monkeys - not sure if this is good for the monkeys or the visitors.
Overall feel was aged, with netted cages and statues interspersed through the park that sometimes seemed out of place, e.g. the penguins in the butterfly garden and dragons (!). Some were broken.
There are many parks that are more animal friendly than this one in my opinion and a better place to take kids to learn about nature.

I have no idea when this gem of a place began, but it really is a gem. It houses, not only a garden centre, but a wonderful walk around (and even walk through) mini zoo of monkey species, butterflies, reptiles, insects, etc. The staff on hand are helpful and very knowledgeable to answer questions from adults and children alike. Plan to spend around 2 hours here. There is a café on site and a children's play area. Plenty of toilets and plenty of parking. There is, of course, the essential shop!
I noted that there is an opening season, so check out the dates.
A bit hilly if you are not inclined(!) to that, but pram/buggy friendly. We bought hot drinks in the café but brought our own picnic as there were picnic tables available - no one objected, so I presume it acceptable(?), which is why I ticked yes to picnics in this review. Perhaps the manager could write a clarification on this?

We visited today as we are staying nearby not knowing what to expect. What a wonderful find. You walk through a lovely garden centre before you get to Tropical world. Cost was €30 for 2 adults and 2 children. There is lots to see with an array of tropical birds, insects, monkeys, tortoises etc. The butterfly walk through area was beautiful and allows you to get close to the butterfly. Lots of interesting facts as you walk through the trail, lovely indoor and outdoor areas and picnic areas. According to their website 80% is covered which is great with the unpredictable weather. There is an onsite cafe however we had a picnic with us made from our hotel. There is a small play area for younger kids which is covered and looked to have lots of nice play areas.The guy with the dinosaur is great fun and a credit to tropical world. Recommended for a great family day out.

Im going to give a 4/4 because there loud off animals and wild life at it.
it’s more really amid at kids then adults.
But saying that was still enjoyable.
I’d definitely recommend it for a family with young children…

I have passed by here many times and not taken much notice of the "Tropical World" sign on the main road. Well, I am glad we decided to visit.
It's a lovely wee garden centre first and then at the back you will Tropical World. I was so pleasantly surprised at how big it was and the amount of different (extremely well looked after) animals that live there.
The whole place is spotlessly clean and the staff are lovely. I must mention Clive, a lovely man that clearly loves those animals. We will be back for other visit.

There’s a big seating area near the entrance and one at the top area. It isn’t huge so both of these are fairly close by at all times.

I’m think its open all year as it advertises it as a great place when raining etc.... check their website to make sure but we were there in September

Yes they brought out a lizard and corn snake for kids. Butterfly garden is fun.
Also a great indoor play area where kids can play. Very nice cafe at the entrance that is known in the area for good food choices.
