‪We have visited this wonderful, rare mid c15th house four times, over several years and still find more to see and understand. Here, the visitor has the opportunity to see how life for ordinary folk has evolved over 500 years. Imagine your home has no chimney, a fire flickers on the Living Room floor, where your lunch of pottage bubbles in an iron cauldron, as the smoke and fumes slowly perculate through the blackened greasy thatch overhead. Your running water is a local brook, the loo is an aromatic hole in the garden, sited out there somewhere...candles and tallow tapers keep the lights on...then you glimpsed the daily life of - maybe your own forebears - as they lived over four centuries till industrialism set us free..‬

‪Told about this house from the lady in the mill. Thoroughly enjoyed our visit. The man there was very helpful, loved the panelling and the uneven ceilings in the bedroom. Well worth a visit.‬

‪We visited late in the day on a quiet Sunday afternoon following a visit to Killerton Estate and the National Trust Volunteer still gave us all the time in the world and didn't rush us at all, we were the only visitors and he bought the house to life with his descriptions. The garden is lovely and there is a lot of history to the house.
Thank you to the volunteers who give their time to allow people to visit these historical places.‬

‪Markers is part of the Killerton Estate (National Trust). It is open from April-October, Saturday - Wednesday, 1-4pm, as it's entirely volunteer run.
A few years, they uncovered a wall with some medieval decorative plasterwork and there are other items to see. The best bit is the beautiful garden which has a summerhouse.
Entry is free for trust members or £6.20 for adults and £3.10 for children (2019 prices). Entry is not included in a ticket for the main Killerton House.
There is free parking outside Markers or you can park in the central free car park by Victory Hall and walk around. I'd suggest avoiding it around school pick up time, as the centre of Broadclyst can get a bit mad and you'll struggle to park.
The entrance to the house is up a couple of steps and there is also an upstairs section. You may be able to get through the back gate on request if you have a wheelchair or buggy. Just ask one of the friendly volunteers!‬

‪This is part of the Killerton Estate. It is only a small place but very interesting. The garden at the back is adequate for the size of the house. The volunteers who were there thought the house used to be a wool merchants. It is nice what they have done with the house, since it had been with the National Trust. Well worth a visit. ‬
