First time here. Extremely interesting house, where the guides in each of the rooms provided excellent summaries. Quaint walled garden + welcome refreshments on the main lawn. Wider walks in the park full of wildlife and very quiet. All sorts of restoration in progress, but it's going to be a big job that will take time. I'm looking forward to seeing the lake brought back to its former glory. Can't really fault anything about today's visit and I would certainly recommend visiting this out-of-the-way property.

We found a new NT property. Interesting gardens and house with modern history of rescue particularly good.

Mostly full access to the house which covers three floors. The basement is still not open when we went, but was assured when all regulations are lifted tours will be allowed.
Fascinating talk on entering about the history of the house which included a model, which helped the explanation.
The gardens and walks were interesting as well and there are a number of walks that can be done, although some were closed due to recent bad weather. The hills are steep and we were advised that don't forget if you walk down you need to come back up as it was a few hundred feet to climb.
Stunning views though.
There is a tea and food hut adjacent to a marquee to sit down and enjoy your beverages. Toilets are next to the car park.

The house was interesting and the views stunning. Shame that 2 of the walks were closed. Lovely snowdrops and really helpful staff.
Downside was catering facility.
1.00pm - They had run out of pasties and sausage rolls - only 1 cheese scone left. Had that and a fruit scone but they came with practically frozen butter which was impossible to spread. Scones were stale. What a let down! They don't stamp your coffee card any more either.
Come on NT you can do better than this.

A very interesting place to visit, this being our first visit, thank goodness for the National trust otherwise we would probably never have places such as this ti visit, Relatively easy to find but lanes can be narrow, plenty of parking and toilets, by the car park, staff very welcoming.
We went on the Pink walk some 3.50 miles Long being a part circular walk, make sure you take the right hand fork when the path splits walking downhill on both paths but the right hand one is steeper coming back, really good views and lots of birdsong, there are other walks you can take that are not as long.
The house is very interesting the explanation given about is development over many years was very illuminating and the views out over the countryside in many directions are spectacular, binoculars are provided to use to take in the views.
The cafe is close by with the usual choices all in all a really good place to visit.

Great visit of the gardens/park. It was our first time and found the staff in the ticket office super friendly. The gardens are open to people with dogs (as long as they are on a lead) and our doggy got a treat on his way in and on his way out. There are some lovely routes on the grounds but not all are open currently as the some trees are being cut down due to disease. You could see that Spring is just round the corner with lots of bulbs peeking out of the ground. We were told to visit again for the bluebells and the wild garlic (apparently, you can pick it and they give you a recipe). We will be back.
The only negative I have is the cafe - the service (you order at a door and get it from another) was the slow pace of delivery for hot drinks. The girl preparing them was painfully slow. And then, when we finally got our hot chocolate and chai latte, they were not even hot, barely warm. We were able to knock them back like shots...I was really annoyed at that as it was quite a chilly day. I did mention it and they offered me another drink but by that time, I just wanted to go home and get warm.

This National Trust owned hunting lodge is all about the setting and the views. getting here takes you along some very narrow roads but it is really worth it when you arrive. The view over the valley is stunning and there are a number of trails through the extensive grounds but you need boots.
Inside the house, the guides really bring it all to life and make the visit worthwhile. It is not well known but worth the trip.

Newark house is poorly illustrated in the NT handbook in my opinion - the location and views are stunning ! Its remoteness adds to its charm. The guides were very knowledgeable and friendly and its history very interesting.
However there was inadequate investment in basic catering which was hard on a cold day particularly as it was so remote.
I know funds are tight but more should be invested in this place.

Whilst on holiday in the area we visited this National Trust property. It is best not to trust the sat nav and follow the brown signs which will get you there more easily.
On arrival parking is in a field and free to National Trust members but you still need to use your membership card to get a ticket from the machine.
Toilets are a temporary type structure by the entrance and seem to be the only toilets on site.
The house is lovely and very interesting.
The gardens are well tended and there are some good walks through the woods but you need walking boots and it is steep in places and can be muddy and slippery.
They are working in the woods currently and there are tractors operating so you need to be careful.
The cafe is inadequate. Coffee was fine but when we went back for sandwiches instead of these being served in the usual packaging the girl serving put them on a paper plate. We were not ready to eat so asked if the sandwiches could be wrapped in cling film and at that point she rolled her eyes at us. Clearly that was far too much trouble. We were quite annoyed at the attitude and it could not have been that big an ask.
Overall a nice visit but spoilt by the attitude of the girl in the cafe.
