Perfect for a long dog walk. Penty parking. Paths are maintained. The odd sitting or picnic are dotted around.
Might even find the rope swings.
One problem is there isn’t no dog waste bins, only one on entry to car park

Located off the A251 Challock on a road known as Whitehill. Free car parking, but it does get busy especially when the Bluebells are in full bloom. There is an information board showing a map and giving general information on the woodland. The major paths are well maintained, even surfaced and wide. You can easily wander around for a couple of hours. Some picnic style seating is available in the car park. Loads of space for kids and dogs to run around.

Car park was easy to find, big and free. There is also a smaller car park further along the road. There is a sculpture trail to follow and this was very poorly sign posted as the sign posts are very sparsely placed and we only found one sculpture, after which point we could no longer find anymore sign posts! Luckily I have a “find my car” app on my phone that I can use to bring me back to the car park as we were very far into the heart of the woods by this point and it would have been hard to find the way back without this app as the sign posts are so poor. This aside it is a lovely woods. My daughters found a tree swing which they enjoyed playing on. Another downside is that there are no benches to sit on at all. We had to sit on a large tree stump to have a picnic! I didn’t see one dog poo bin either. We were in the woods for 3 hours. We will return however as it is a nice place to explore

We enjoyed a lovely afternoon walk here on a very hot day in June 2020 (it was bliss not to be in full sun!) The woods are extensive and the car park is free (if a bit rough). However, I agree that the signage is very poor. We tried to follow the sculpture trail but certain junctions were very unclear and I only saw 1 sculpture. I would have liked more waymarked foot trails actually through the woods rather than following lanes/bridleways most of the way (not sure if we were supposed to but as I said, the signage is poor 0 and how do you tell the difference between red and orange trails on weathered posts?!) Directions to the car park were also less than obvious. In some ways I'm glad it's not easier to find as it means it wasn't busy, and I will go again, but next time I'm taking an OS map and compass!

Went twice... got lost... twice.
Signage needs to be improved. Trying to follow the sculpture trail is near impossible and we managed to see just one sculpture. I took a picture of the map in the car park the second time, which made zero difference. Still got lost. There are actually much better walks to go on locally, following bridal ways and public footpaths. After you’ve seen a few trees... a wood’s just a wood.

We visited here and it is absolutely beautiful. One of the most beautiful woods I have ever been to. We took our two dogs the only thing that would improve the walks would be dog waste bins, we didn’t see one at all. It was a glorious day, we walked 3 miles and we will def be returning.

Well kept woods with lots of walk ways. There is a large sculpture in the woods which is worth the walk. The car park has a few potholes which needs to be avoided but overall very well kept!

Have visited this place on 5 occasions with dogs and have been lost every time. The signposting is probably the worst I have experienced. How hard can it be to get a major but easily corrected point right. !!!!

Huge place with lots of walking paths for the family. We spent 4 hours there and could have made a day of it had we packed a picnic. Lovely autumn day out.

Are there ever any gun shots from hunts or bird gas guns going off? I’d love to take my dogs, but one of them freaks out at any sort of bang

Thanks x

I would say try early April or even mid april as the daffodils are out but we still have tulips season before the blue bells. As some years ago it has been as late as end of April too. The bluebells last almost 3 weeks i think so hopefully you get to see some.

I have noticed Japanese Knotweed growing on Forestry Commission land, very close to some houses. Some of the trees adjacent to this patch have been painted with numbers in yellow paint. If these trees are to be removed and or soil disturbance is to take place, what will happen to this invasive plant?

Dear John,
Having some experience with the dreaded Knotweed, generally speaking the forestry commission would employ a contractor to remove this or spray it at least. Obviously this will not eradicate the weed entirely. I'm unsure as to what the FC policy is on this so it may be worth speaking to them.
Hope this helps

Where is the car park? We are coming from Ashford
ropeguru
أشفورد, UK36 مساهمة
This depends on which way you come! If you come from Challock direction the carpark will be on your left. Quite apparent with a height restriction barrier over it.' There is a slightly smaller car park further down on the left.
