Lo spettacolare risultato dell'erosione. In foto non rende, va visto di persona. Consiglio di lasciare l'automobile nel parcheggio ai bordi della provinciale ed attraversare il caratteristico Borgo a piedi per arrivare al Fungo.

Oltre a vedere il fungo, che è molto interessante, consiglio di approfittare dell'occasione per mangiare ottimi piatti locali presso una delle tante trattorie presenti nella zona o a Cairo Montenotte.

Caratteristico fungo in pietra situato non lontano da Piana Crixia
Nelle vicinanze sono presenti molti cartelli che indicano il fungo in pietra.
Situato in località borgo, bisogna passare a fianco della chiesa di Piana Crixia e arrivare al cimitero. Parcheggiare l'auto li. In pochi minuti a piedi vi trovere ai piedi del fungo in pietra.
Nelle vicinanze sono presenti molti cartelli che indicano il fungo in pietra.
Situato in località borgo, bisogna passare a fianco della chiesa di Piana Crixia e arrivare al cimitero. Parcheggiare l'auto li. In pochi minuti a piedi vi trovere ai piedi del fungo in pietra.

il fungo è il simbolo di piana crixia, piccolo paese ligure ai confini del piemonte. Questo è il paese natale della nonna di Papa francesco.

In the tiny Medieval villiage of Borgo in Piana Crixia, behind a breathtaking Bizantian Church, stands this miracle of nature, overlooking a spectacular valley - with the beautiful Bromida River flowing below it. It defines beauty, tranquility and Timelessness.
The "mushroom" has many legends.
One is about a bolt of lightning which is said to have struck it long long ago, and oil slowly began to flow from it. This oil was carefully collected and for a long time it was used exclusively to light certain religious traditions in the church. Until one day ... an old lady living in the tiny hamlet of Borgo had trouble with a sick pig. She went in secret to collect a very tiny amount of oil for her pig, to try and heal her. The oil stopped flowing at once and the pig died.
Then there is the story of Napoleon who led his battalions through many significant battles in this area. You see numerous monuments and signs of him in this area. Napoleon wanted the mushroom, but like the Spinx in Egypt, that was impossible, so, like the Spinx in Egypt, he decided the next best thing would be to shoot at it.... Mother Nature was not going to give him that pleasure, though: as the soldiers started setting up the explosives around the Mushroom,a dense fog started rolling in, covering the mushroom and making the mushroom barely visible. To the delight of the inhabitants of the area the fierce soldiers were struck with fear and superstition and they abandoned the destructive mission at once. The Mushroom still stands today.
Borgo is a very very old and a tiny hamlet that lay protected between the present Bizantian church at the top of the hill and a magnificent castle from around 900AD, but was destroyed and rebuilt and destroyed finally in the 17th Century by the Spaniards. The Castle was built at the entrance to the top of the hill and afforded protection to the inhabitants of Borgo (Cobblers, Blacksmiths, Tradesmen, Apothecaries and the like.) Most of the 900 year old houses still stand there. A modern Castle now guards the entrance.

La Natura ha fatto questa bella scultura in un ambiente bellissimo! In primavera e in autunno i colori del parco offrono uno sfondo affascinante.

Una roccia-cappello che protegge il suo gambo, da tempo immemore. In un piccolo borgo appena fuori Piana, nulla da visitare ma solo il fungo da fotografare, tenuto benissimo.

Per chi dovesse trovarsi a transitare per la prima volta o occasionalmente sulla provinciale 30 da Savona ad Acqui Terme o viceversa , vale la pena fermarsi per vedere questa inconsueta formazione a forma di fungo.
Non bisogna aspettarsi però nulla di particolarmente grande ma semplicemente una formazione particolare a forma di fungo dovuta alla erosione a seguito di una frana avvenuta da un pendio sabbioso o morenico, come il resto delle colline che circondano Piana Prixia
Arrivare al fungo è facile: si trova in frazione Borgo di Piana Prixia lungo la provinciale e l’accesso è a fianco al “Castello del fungo”. Pochi minuti di cammino dopo il cimitero e da lì si arriva a due piccole balconate (una alta e una bassa) dalle quali si vede il fungo e la valle.

Facilmente raggiungibile a piedi ; lasciando la macchina nel parcheggio sulla statale, in pochi minuti si raggiunge questo fungo di pietra. È la dimostrazione di quanto sia paziente e meravigliosa la natura che ha impiegato millenni di erosione per regalarci questo spettacolo. Alto una quindicina di metri (sembra che nel mondo sia uno dei più imponenti), formato da due massi enormi e dal peso immenso se ne sta quasi sospeso sul fiume e ci lascia senza fiato. Essendo un'insegnante ho programmato durante la prossima gita scolastica una breve tappa con i miei alunni perché, pur vivendo a non più di 60 - 70 km dalla zona, pochi ne hanno sentito parlare e meno.ancora lo hanno visto. Peccato perché troppo spesso non ci soffermiamo sul nostro territorio dando per scontato che le cose lontane siano migliori....
