- Outside of being a licensed boat captain, I am also an elementary school counselor.
- I have been offering scenic tours on board my boat to visitors for about 10 years. In that time we have found breaching whales, playful otters, cranky sea lions, and more!

Captain was very friendly and had some snacks for us. Gave a little history of the island and the boat. Reasonable pricing for the 2 hours but we were a little disappointed in how little actual sea life we saw. NO whales, stellar sea lions (in the harbor), a couple bald eagles (also in the harbor) and a couple sea otters. LOTS of sea birds but we didn't really feel that there was much effort made to get us closer to them to where we could get better photos, as all 5 passengers were photographers.

Thank you Stephen for an amazing experience on our trip to Kodiak. We were lucky enough to catch the whales in action and enjoyed every minute of our two hour tour.

Really enjoyed this tour. It was great to be out on the water, let alone seeing whales, seals, puffins, and sea otters. Stephen was very informational and made sure we saw as much as we could. Great views on his boat. Fun light snacks. Had a great time—get out there with Stephen!

Trip was exciting. Saw lots of whales. Some were breaching, on their backs flapping their fins. Steve from Kodak Scenic Tours made the trip a lot of fun. Highly recommend; will not disappoint.

My wife and I came to Kodiak to do some whale watching, and Kodiak Scenic Tours did not disappoint! We enjoyed the personal touch from Stephen on TWO tours. The first tour was on our first evening, and the water was quite calm. We saw otters, puffins and followed two humpback whales for nearly an hour at the end of the trip.
Encouraged by our experience, we booked an afternoon tour with Stephen on our last day and the experience exceeded all expectations! Stephen cautioned all of the passengers that whale breaching was rare, especially since whales do a lot of feeding in the rich waters in the area.
We were obviously taken by surprise by the first whale breach only 50 yards from the boat - wow! We were surrounded by whales for most of the trip, and experienced another 4-5 spectacular breaches during our trip. There were a number of tale flukes as well, and we stayed with the enormous mammals beyond our time limit to return to shore.
I highly recommend this tour to anyone who wants to see Alaska wildlife up close and personal. We appreciated that this is a small family business, and Stephen provides the personal touch and enthusiasm in his work. When we come back, we plan to make another visit to Kodiak Scenic Tours!
SPECIAL NOTE: Stephen also runs a small rental car business called Ride Scenic, providing reliable vehicles for folks wishing to explore the island.

Thanks. Steven made it awesome! My out of town family will make his tour a highlighted memory of their stay. Affordable and worth much more.

The whale watching tour was fabulous! Steven was knowledgeable, attentive and kind. His boat was clean and comfortable (the wood stove is a bonus). The whales were amazing! I recommend this tour without reservation! It was great!

This was a fantastic business to use for our car rental and boat tour! Our car was fantastic! Super clean and reliable! Drove around as much as we could! The boat tour was GREAT! We didn’t see whales but it was a great experience! Snacks on the boat were a welcome surprise and Stephen took great care of us with area knowledge. He was so friendly and down to earth. It was a perfect evening on his boat

Fun outing on Steven’s boat seeing whales, sea otters, sea lions, and puffins. He picked us up at our hotel and dropped us off afterwards. Charming fellow. The area is just beautiful.

Our captain, Steven, knew exactly where to go to see an amazing display of whales. We began our trip on his spotless boat by cruising past a colony of sea lions. As we went out into the ocean towards another small island, we saw salmon jumping, puffins, and sea otters. Spotting a large group of seagulls circling over the water, we headed in that direction and soon began to see three humpback whales spouting, breaching, and rolling. We held steady for close to an hour as the whales fed and put on a show for us. It was beyond my wildest expectations. Steven is very personable and knowledgeable about Kodiak and the area in general. He also provided us with delicious light snacks, including goat cheese spreads homemade from their own goats. This was a very enjoyable afternoon, and I highly recommend it.
