‪We were biking the ardentinny loop and saw signs for historic Kilmun. Climbed the steps through an intriguing graveyard and found gravesnatcher deterrents!
The most lovely guide popped out and we had a wonderful tour of the graveyard, mausoleum and church
So much history here and such fantastic interesting snippets from a knowledgable guide.
14th century stone carvings, be headings, the grave of the first ever female doctor in the UK- all in Argyll!
It’s a community project - such high quality- so glad we stopped and will visit again‬

‪Incredible place, steeped in history since 7th century; burial place of the chiefs of Clan Campbell since the 15th century … beautiful stained glass windows too! Tour lasts 45 mins with knowledgeable volunteer guides or you can just have a look around.‬

‪Great piece of old history, the roots of how religion came about in this country( not religious but love history) was great for the young children they enjoyed the natural beauty of the area.‬

‪We visited the area and enjoyed a tour of Kilmun Church and Visitor Centre ... This was the history of the Clan Campbell and the Dukes of Argyll... Tour guide was brilliant and gave true feeling to the story behind the family .. also visited the family mosleum. I thought Dunoon was just a small place but came away understanding it's diverse history. Highly recommended....‬

‪The Heritage centre is only open on Thursdays to Saturdays 10-4pm so we returned on a cloudy day having explored the graveyard earlier in the week. We were warmly greeted by one of the locals who act as tour guides. £3 entry fee helps to meet the price of the upkeep . The half hour informative tour makes it well worth it. Knowledgeable guides give you a potted history of the main points of interest including the Clan Campbell's interest in Kilnum and a look inside the mausoleum where the 1st 10 dukes of Argyll are buried.
Dr Elizabeth Blackwell was a British physician, notable as the first woman to receive a medical degree in the United States, and the first woman on the Medical Register of the GMC. In 1907, while holidaying in Kilmun, Scotland, Blackwell fell down a flight of stairs, and was left almost completely mentally and physically disabled. She died at her home in Hastings, Sussex, after suffering a stroke that paralyzed half her body. Her ashes were buried in the graveyard of St Munn's Parish Church, Kilmun.‬

‪We thoroughly enjoyed our tour and our guide was very knowledgeable and made the visit a pleasure. As I enjoy photography the opportunity to photograph in the Mausoleum was a pleasure.‬

‪If you are descended from a Campbell, this is a MUST visit! A little off the beaten path but a great destination. Fiona was very helpful. This is one of Scotland's best kept secrets. This was one of the main reason I wanted to go back to Scotland.‬

‪I found it a spiritual as well as an educational experience to visit Kilmun Parish Church and the Argyll Mausoleum. The Church has a quiet contemplative atmosphere, lit by wonderful stained glass windows, the loving work of a visionary master. I have wanted to visit the attached Mausoleum for years, because one of my family's dearest friends, Angus Campbell, the Captain of Dunstaffnage, came to the Mausoleum in 1914 and 1949, to lay the coffins of his kinsmen, the 9th and 10th Dukes of Argyll, in their ancestral vault. Even if you know little or nothing about the members of the Argyll dynasty who rest there, the Mausoleum and the Church are unforgettable places to visit, and you will come away enlightened about Scottish clan history. I had a charming informative guide, and tea served by another lady in a quaint attractive room. I didn't want to leave, and will go back to admire again the funeral tributes in metal made by Princess Louise, the 9th Duke's widow, a sculptress of great gifts.
