Dissapointed that there was no menu online & even more dissapointed that there was no vegetarian breakfast option. Would have been good to know before we got there. Was offered extra tomatoes & mushrooms instead! Lovely veggie breakfast at Hawkhurst cafe instead.

Excellent gardens. Whatever the weather this is a joy to visit. Plenty of benches to sit on, located at strategic points of the garden to provide a view of a beautiful vista and/or a flowerbed. There is a very good restaurant with very helpful and friendly staff. The food was delicious. Would definitely return.

Stunning garden with so much to discover. Hidden gardens link by different paths to unveil water features, standing stones and more.
We used the 2-1 offer so even better value.
Main pond was very brown for some reason, that was the only negative.

Not helpful in acknowledging their error. We bought a Passiflora Pura Vida in early June which we gifted to a local Retirement Home. We bought this specific variety as it was supposed to have a rose-pink/purple flower, which is unusual as most Passiflora have a purple / blue / lilac flower. This plant was subsequently planted into the ground and its trailing vines were painstakingly woven around a pergola to create a stunning visage for when the flowers bloomed. Fast forward 2 months, when the flowers opened we and the residents of the Retirement Home were disappointed to discover that the Passiflora was of the normal blue/purple variety.
We re-visited Merriments Garden Centre to explain the situation, with evidence of the purchase, photos of the plant in the Retirement showing Blue / Lilac flowers and also the information tag of the plant showing Passiflora Pura Vida. We were intially told by the cashier that , Oh well, things like that happens and it's a case of someone mis-labelling the plant. There was no acceptance of responsibilities until we insisted that we wanted to speak to a manager. We told the Manager, Grace, that it would be difficult for us to remove the plant as it was firmly planted into the ground and tied to a pergola. All photographic evidence of purchase, plant and colour of flowers were shown to Grace. We did not want a refund but a goodwill gesture of a credit note would be acceptable. Grace said she totally understood but would have to refer to the General Manager, Imogen.
Fast forward another 5 days, we visited the Garden Centre again to ask for progress of our complaint and was told that the General Manager, Imogen, was busy and would contact us. £ hours later we get a call from another cashier to say that Imogen has stated that we will get a refund if we return the plant!
This is highly unreasonable as they knew the plant was in-situ in the garden of the Retirement home. To dig this up, then returning the plant to the Garden Centre just to get my money back means that I do all the work for nothing while the Garden Centre trivialises and take no responsibility for their error!
This Garden Centre has poor concept of customer service and dos not take accountability for their errors. Certainly not one of the better Garden Centre in the area and I would recommend avoiding giving them your custom.
I left the above review in Google and Meeriments were quick to reply with half truth and fiction, ranging from...
General Manager was not around(she was on at least one occasion, as acknowledged by cashier.), I wanted my money back ( I did not. I was happy with a goodwill gesture e.g. a partial credit note)
I was happy with the plant and it was growing well (yes, the plant is growing well but it is the wrong variety to that stated on their label)
To cut a long story, they put more effort in fobbing off their customers when they are in error, and will make it seems like everyone who complains are in the wrong, never them.
Poor show and they should be ashamed.

The staff greeted my wife and I with a friendly welcome in the garden shop and the cafe alike. The lunch we ordered was delicious enhanced by the locally grown vegetables. Our waiter was most courteous and made the meal even more enjoyable. Although the weather was wet we bought a couple of reasonably priced tickets to visit the adjacent garden, a real treat for keen gardeners shame given the weather we couldn't linger further. Would highly recommend!

Fantastic dog friendly Saturday morning visit. Such attentive staff, beautiful choice of plants for sale too. Will definitely be returning soon.

A well-stocked garden centre which sells more than just plants. There's everything you could possibly need for growing your flowers and vegetables as well as caring for your pets. Also, the staff are very friendly and helpful. When you have finished shopping there's an adjacent restaurant.

Warm helpful welcome into the restaurant. Offered any vacant table of our choice & specials & standard menu explained.
Chose the quiche of the day - superb. We learned it was its first outing.

This truly is a fabulous place to visit. Not just because it’s dog friendly, the gardens are beautiful and the plants are fantastic, there’s much more to Merriments than first meets the eye. What makes this place so wonderful is the people. The staff are kind, knowledgeable, enthusiastic and engaging, a true reflection of just how customer service should be. Unlike so many places that sell plants, there is something very special about this place on all levels, and I would wholeheartedly recommend you visit. If you have a dog, definitely bring them along too!
Everything here is done exceptionally well, from the health of the plants on sale, the incredibly well kept gardens, to the amazing food they have on offer, you will not be disappointed! I will absolutely be back, it was a pleasure to meet such a wonderful team and my dog had a thoroughly enjoyable time too. Ten out of ten!

We just had the most delightful walk around these gardens. We had great weather, that allowed us to bask in the delights of the design. There was such attention to detail in the fabulous wee pockets of different garden styles, so many inspiring, ideas. The cafe staff were friendly and attentive. I could have easily bought up the garden centre but for the fact it would not fit in my hand luggage to Edinburgh.

I've checked the website again. From the home page select garden and then select opening times which includes admission charges. There is a concessionary rate of £6.50. A few people have commented that the standard rate of £7 is too high. My impression is that this figure was arrived at by an accountant based on footfall.
