Epic bike trails. Been here loads. Best track is the black route especially the massive tabletop at the bottom. Love this place.

I loved the bike ride but it was a bit too bumpy for me, but I still loved it. First all of us did the green route then me and my mum went on the same green route again, while my brother and dad did the blue route.

Swinley used to be one of the best places for mountain biking in South East England. Over the last few years things have got bad. The trails are in a bad state and poorly signposted. I'd advise biking elsewhere for now: at the Surrey Hills for example.

So after many years of riding and having the fear of jumps I decide to book my self on a 2 hour coaching session at the summit. This came round today (in the rain -nice) and I spent 2 hours with Scott. What a fantastic 2 hours. I’ve not come out of it bucking jumps like Steve pear or rob warner, but I have been given the base knowledge to improve my skills at this. We spent a couple of hours doing pumps, drops and working up to drops and Scott was fantastic. Happy to tell me where I had gone wrong and give me advice to change the way I needed to do things, but patient when I could necessarily get this the first time round. To now be at a point where I feel confident in my ability of clearing a jump (albeit a 2foot table top) it means I can enjoy my trail riding even more. Thanks Scott!

Had a great time trying out the The Summit at Swinley Bike Hub with my son - really helpful staff giving us hints and tips to make the most of it.

Have had my van broken into twice in the car park.
Both times I was told the cameras were not able to see my van.
The staff were unfriendly and unsympathetic.

A beautiful forest away from the crowd and fully tranquil. highly recommended. Can cycle miles and miles without being disturbed by a sole.

Visited Swinley today as a rare day off treat for myself...
I have mixed feelings about the site: So, bear in mind that this is a review of several parts.
Intro:
I am a fairly well travelled and competent rider with my own kit. I had no need to hire kit or take any coaching...
Part 1: Boverd?
The 'dude' at the Swinley Bike Hub (should be renamed bike hire centre) was about as much use as a chocolate teapot... Total lack of interest and utterly disinterested in anyone but hire / coaching customers. They may have great local knowledge, but trying to extract info was testing to say the least... It was enough to send me on my way than consider spending money in the trail shop...
Part 2: Routes and signage
Get yourself a copy of the Trail Forks app ... Signage around the trails is not great. Following the blue into red trails, I repeatedly had to stop and see if I had gone the right way... And on several occasions I was following the most obvious track which took me way off piste (not a problem with the app... But without it... Well just say it would have been a real adventure!!!)
In all, covering the blue and red routes, I topped out on GPS at 13.5miles not the 24 miles advised by 'the dude'... 24km perhaps...?
Part 3: Grading
Let's be clear, 99% of the graded red trails are not red in comparison to other trail centres... There were a handful of interesting features but very well spaced and chickenlines / rollable alternates at every option... In summary there were perhaps 5 or 6 red features at Swinley... The rest is all fairly bland and not desperately wowwy...
RED 25 was, admittedly, a blast... But it's the only bit of the whole centre with any 'whoop' potential (aside from the private coaching area - which looks FANTASTIC... Unlike:
Part 4: Maintenance
OK so I went a day or two after some pretty dismal weather... However, with the exception of Red 25 the trails (notably the red) were really badly scoured / bombholed before and after the berms which, frankly, ruined the ride in almost all sections. I spent more time dodging puddles and avoiding potential OTB opportunities than I did riding a line... Frustrating.
NOTE: I expect this place is a much more pleasurable ride in the dry... But I can't be certain.
Part 5: Facilities
Food etc: Didn't bother - can't comment.
The coaching centre looks brilliant though... Well worth a look...
Bike wash: sponsored by Muc-off.... But only if you need it before 2pm... Then it's reserved for use by the bike hire operator... Should be sponsored by ****-off wedontwantyourbusiness.com!
Generally I would say that Swinley was once a great trail centre, (perhaps in the lead up to the Olympics?) but today it's not a patch on locations elsewhere in the UK...
No need to avoid, but as of August 2021... It could be Soooo much better... I may be back... But I won't rush!

If we are renting a bike from the Swinley Bike Hub, do we have to cycle first or pass through a road before reaching the starting point of the green trail? My son is just a beginner so I'm quite cautious about busy road.

The bike hire shop is situated just of the main car park next to the park and picnic area, the shop staff advice you where to go, you can push the bike thru the picnic area or cut thru the car park, well just skim the quietest edge of it....the trail start are only yards from the shop, it’s easy to get to 👍
How much is it to hire a bike for the day to hit the trails
Richard A

about £20- £25 for half or £40-£45 for a full day.. depending on the type of bike you want...
you need to check on the swinleybikehub web site.. you can do it all online.

Aside from the car park cost, is it free to ride the trails?

Yes trails free. Many points to park free. Try behind Bagshot church. I hope you have as much fun as we have. Enjoy!
