This place is in Bangalore at just 60 km drive away from the city on Kanakpura road. To reach this place you have to reach sangam first . Sangam is a place where two river Arkavati and kaveri river merges. It's a good picnic spot too. There is round boat available here which is called "coracle" which help u to cross the river. They charge 50/- RS per person to and fro service. After crossing the river you will get the government bus to each Makedattu which is 4 km ahead of sangam .the bus will charge u again rs 90/- (two way) to reach the destination.
Makedatu is famous for picturesque place for river kaveri where it's flow at narrow site along with some big rocks which make a shape of goat's neck.
Timing - morning 6 am to 6pm .
Parking - available at sangam.

Mekedatu (meaning "Goat's Leap") is located at Sangama, the confluence point where the Arkavati river merges with the Kaveri river, just a 2-hour and 15-minute drive away from Bangalore.
To reach Mekedatu, we first need take a short coracle transfer from the car park to the opposite side of the river. From there, a bus ride take us to Mekedatu. However, please be aware that the bus is quite old. The bus journey lasts around 15-20 minutes and brings us to the entrance of Mekedatu. From there, a pathway leads us closer to the river, which is not too difficult to navigate, but it's essential to exercise extreme caution while traversing the rocky terrain. It's advisable to maintain a safe distance from the river's edge as it can be hazardous.
The scenic views at Mekedatu are truly breathtaking and offer a spectacular sight to behold.

It's a pretty scenic drive with plenty of small lakes and greenery all along the route. Once you reach the Cauvery river-head, you have to leave your car there (plenty of space to park, perfectly safe) and then wait for a somewhat rickety mini bus to take you to the gorge (return fare - 70/- per head). It's a bumpy but pleasant ride on a mud track along the river, through the forest, which takes around 20-25 minutes. You're given 30 minutes to explore the place once you reach there and you don't have a choice because it's mandatory to take the same bus back. There is a view point where the bus drops you, from where you get an aerial view of the gorge. But you can also go down to get a closer look. The descent should take you under ten minutes. Rocky steps that eventually require you to walk across big boulders. From there you can stare right into the gushing water. But one careless step can cost you your life.
From the Covid perspective, be warned that you'll have to share the bus ride with several other people and most of them don't believe in wearing masks.

It is closed. Please do not visit this place. We visited today and the police stopped us before entering. This is the best season to visit but due to COVID-19 restrictions and recent increase in visitors, it has been temporarily closed for tourists. Also if you are travelling from Bangalore the roads are very bad and it takes around 3.5 hours to reach. So better wait for some more time if you don't wish to risk 7 hours of painful journey.

Only Sangama is open for visit after post lockdown. Mekedatu is still being closed due to COVID 19 Effect, unfortunately there were no updates on this anywhere.
In sangama can spend time in shore for sometime, not any place is there to visit.
Info : as per local guide, Mekedatu will open from April 2020 onwards.
So plan accordingly.

I just went to Mekedatu Sangam today Sept 10,2020. The Sangam is open for visit. However Chunchi falls and Mekedatu gorge view point are closed as of today. The Meekdatu gorge view point is closed because of high water level.
Beautiful place. Calm and serene. You can take a dip as well. The real best part is the journey. You will get some amazing views after Kanakpura Road. Highly recommended.

planning to go during may 10 th 11 th time .is it advisable to go .Are there any nice attractions near by that place too.can we take a resort and stay?

Yes you can go. As mentioned you can plan chunci falls which could be less water. But if you start early (assuming Bangalore) you can shivanasamudra. Unless you plan to continue journey next day, you can return to Bangalore. There was a building in mekedatu for stay under construction, I am not sure if this is completed and reserve bookings. For resort you can plan guhantara on kanakapura road.
We are planning to go on 15th March 2019 please let me know the water flow as soon as possible

You will have water but less than average. In last june we saw only a stream kind of flow. But not best time to visit due to summer.
