The church is located in the city of Bandel in Hooghly district. The church was founded way back in 1599 by the Portuguese settlers. It is one of the most prominent historical churches in West Bengal as well as in India.

Very well maintained. It was a memorable exprrience. The prayer areas nicely maintained. Also the lawns are very clean and beautiful

love the history and structure. easy to commute to by train from Kolkata. Though a bit crowded at times, yet a place to visit. Its great to view from top. Dont miss it.

Very well maintained church though it’s very old, dating back to 1599 built by the Portuguese. It has a huge compound with beautiful sculptures.

Well maintained old Church. No entry fee. A great place to visit during Christmas. Can be reached by car, rickshaw, toto or auto. Lots of eateries outside. Near to Hoogly river. Nearest rail station Bandel Jn. A learning place for interested persons.

I have visited this place so many times that I have lost count. It's one of the places I long to visit every year. The church is old with stunning interiors and history and a peaceful atmosphere. It's perfect for a weekend trip.

A great place to visit during Christmas. The church is spread across a large area and can be reached easily. Lots of eateries outside the church.

The Sunday resounded with the music of hymns and church bell tolling,
As candles were lighted with devotion to
The Lady Of Happy Voyage.
A magnificent iconic one of the oldest churches,
In the dist of Hooghly..,,
Built (1599)..destroyed (1632)...and rebuilt (1660)
Declared a minor basilica,
Enriched by the tradition and legacy of Portuguese settlement.
A huge mast of a ship carefully preserved at the gates,
Offered by a storm tossed ship brought safely to port(1655)
The Grand Tower Clock still stands as keeper of time
The roof top offers a view of the distant river,
Spanned by the bridges the old and the new.
The young and the old down the centuries,
Have walked on these very same paths.

One Of The Oldest Church In The Country Which Indicates The Architectural Skill Of Dinemars. Beatiful Painting And Decoration And Peaceful Atmosphere Overwhelm. It Is Just Beside The Ganges. Easy To Go From Bandel Station By Auto/Toto/Rickshaw Etc. May Do Picnic Outside Periphery Of The Church In The Ground.

Situated on the bank of Ganges this Portuguese church is the oldest in West Bengal. Opening 8am and closing 4.50 pm. You can hire an auto rickshaw or cycle rickshaw to reach the church from Bandel railway station. If you come by shared auto or public bus ,the stoppage is Bally's more. Gets crowded heavily during the Christmas time and new year's eve. You can spend a half day here. Well maintained. Toilets and driking water are available inside. Visit early to avoid rush. maintain silence inside the church.

It does remain open on that day and there is a nice display beside the lawn at the back depicting the birth of christ
