‪The place is on the way from Pune to Nasik .Bhimashankar Temple is a Jyotirlinga shrine- One of the 12 Jyotirlinga, located 50 km Khed taluka, near Pune, in Maharashtra, India. It is located 127 km from Shivajinagar in the Ghat region of the Sahyadri Mountains. Bhīmāshankar is also the source of the river Bhima, which flows southeast and merges with the Krishna river near Raichur. Currently Low rush is there and one can perform Puja & Abhishekam . There is No such dress code but one should wear Indian and clean dress to perform Puja or Abhishekam. Har Har Mahedev.‬

‪We travelled as a family in a Innova from Pune. If u have old family members for this trip - pls ensure or keep them motivated for a steep climb down and climb up. There are some "dolli" available - but they are rickety and not safe enough. Also u may not find neat restaurants near the temple, so complete your food needs before hand- good restaurants are enroute, before the ghat section. I thought it will be a green forest- but mostly dry (seasonal) grass lands, mostly.

The temple is a small, neat one. The nija roopa darsaan is available only at 5am and 12 noon. Mostly covered with a silver covering. You can offer flowers, curd, water to the deity yourself- the story has that Lord Shiva is a Ardhanarieswar form. there is a line on the shiva lingam. We had a short line for darsan. Looks like the crowd picks up after 1pm - could be people are travelling from distance. So if u plan to reach early- there could be less or no rush. The pandits are approachable and not greedy (relatively). This is the 6th in the line of 12 jyothirlingas- must visit if u r in Pune / Mumbai‬

‪The Bhima Shankar Jyotirlinga is one of the three Jyotirlinga in Maharashtra. Distance from Pune is approx. 90 km. We started early in the morning and reached the location in approx. 3-4 hrs. as we stopped between the route for a break and saw nature's beauty.

Due to the construction of the road, you will have to stop 3 KM before the Temple to park your vehicle. You will get a roadways bus that will drop you at the temple gate, and this service is on both sides of the journey.

Nowadays, Temple opens at 4:30 am and closes around 7:30 in the evening.

I visited during the weekend, but there was no rush, and darshan was very good and without any hustle. As soon as you entered the main temple area, the feeling was great, and you felt energetic.

People who have a problem walking might think about going to the Temple as it has steps downhill. But divine power always helps to overcome such situations.
It would be great advice not to drive in dark hours or night due to surrounding on the way to the Temple.

There are shops to have quick snacks and purchase items along with steps to the main Temple.‬

‪We visited this place from Pune and took a road via Chakan, Nasik Highway. Road was pretty good except for few stretches which are under construction. The temple had a weekend rush but was bearable. There was a queue and one has to go down to the main temple with shops aligned on both sides. There is no proper place to keep the footwear and there is a confusion as each shop tries to pull you in saying there is no place to keep the footwear and you will have to return. The temple is quite old and Shivling is all covered in Silver - so nothing more than that is visible. A live TV camera outside constantly relays the diety and the happening around it. There are plenty of monkeys on the path downstairs. Better to hide the eatables or they snatch it.‬

‪The temple was empty and in such times it emanates a serene feeling. the path to the temple are steps downhill with shops on both sides. there were no queues and darshan was easy, no jostling or people breathing down your neck. one could stay for darshan for as many minutes one chose to.
But much more than the easy and serene darshan, it was the walk to gupt bhimashankar that has etched in ones mind .
The sighting of shekaru, the giant squirrels in the thick canopy of the forest surrounding the temple.
The walk is downhill about 2 kms one way with large buttresses of trees where the giant squirrels live. A shy arboreal animal, their population has grown due to conservation efforts. The forest around the temple and the sacred grove concept or devrai is responsible for the the growth in numbers of the squirrels. BNHS and its researchers gave an impetus to the conservation movement.‬

‪The road to Bhimashankar from Talegaon Till Plaza (on Mumbai-Pune Expressway) was under construction yesterday when we were going to Bhimashankar.

It is advisable to use the route via Chakan and Rajgurunagar to reach Bhimashankar.

The long drive passes through vast stretch of unpopulated areas with lots of steep rise and dips on the road. So Ensure that your car is well maintained and in good condition and balanced loaded . It is sort of a pilgrimage trip . Avoid Driving in dark hours (I.e. night time) . So Do not expect any fun and pleasure , rather the Driving itself may give some pleasure while you Cruise along the Bhima River‬

‪Temple is situated in a forest. Google navigation suggested the shortest route which is not good for car. The actual route has well built roads and good mobile and internet connectivity. Temple is so beautiful and divine.
You can carry phones but can’t take pictures
You only get less than a minute to stand near shivling. Rush or no rush, you’ll be shouted out to leave.

The only downside is “Arrogant Police officers” who were rude disrespectful and what not💔.

Due to this pandemic, there wasn’t any rush so you can visit the temple without any long queues or waiting time. Policemen guards had a table and chairs just outside the main sanctum and when we reached we saw them laughing and gossiping but they did not allow anyone of us to recite any stotras to Shivji. Although we served shivji as per our capacity but the police man asked for money from us. We did not even responded to him and got nearly shouted upon to leave the temple premises. ‬

‪A huge property nestled amidst verdant green. Situated at village Palkhewadi, 9 km before the Bhimashankar Temple, right on Pune-Bhimashankar (VIa Manchhar) bus route. So anybody coming from Pune either by Maharashtra Road Transport bus (having very frequent service throughout the day) or by car can drop down right on the gate of the resort. There is also a very big parking place inside.

There are 70 non ac delux rooms and 2 VIP rooms. All rooms are lined along 2 sides of the corridor, either on the front or on the rear side of the resort. All rooms have separate balcony and offers vast, panoramic view of the greenery, both on front and back side. All rooms have western toilet with geyser.

There is also a very big restaurant. Quality of cooking is very good, even very suitable for children and aged people. Staff is also very polite and always ready to make sure that the guests are satisfied by their service.

Because there is no locality in the vicinity of the property the atmosphere is very very serene. The all pervading silence is only occasionally broken by the call of the peacocks from the jungle across the bus road.

For going to temple one can take the govt. buses coming from Pune. Share jeeps are also available (they are coming from Manchhar). Bus fare Rs. 10. Jeep fare Rs. 20 (though we noticed they were taking Rs. 10 from local people). If you want, the resort authority can also arrange for private car service. Morning Arti at the temple is held at around 4.30/5 am. So if you want to watch it, you have to depend on the resort car because no bus or jeep is available so early in the morning. Fare for resort car is Rs. 1000 (to temple and back). Overall very very good experience we had there.

One must remember that there is no proper staying option adjacent to the temple. There is only one 'hotel' at the bus stand. But it is not absolutely worth the money, its fare is even more than the MTDC. Rooms are very small and dingy. Some local people also rent their rooms but it must not be misinterpreted as 'home-stays'. Sorry to say they all look like slum dwellings. So MTDC Bhimashankar is the best option to stay near the jyotirlinga site within a reasonable budget. Bookings can be done online or on the spot. Online booking has different discount options.‬

‪This is a lesser known Shiva Linga located some 120 kilometres from Pune. Other Shiva Linga of Maharashtra state - Triyambakeshwara and Grushneshwar are more famous. But there is something which makes Bhimashankar worth visiting apart from it's divinity. The ride through sahyadri hills is breath taking with some great view enroute. The Shiva Temple is an ancient temple. I visited in November month and there wasn't much crowd them. Darshan was awesome. I felt the temple could be better maintained.‬

‪This is one of the famous 12 jyotirlinga temples, abode of Lord Shiva. Located on a hill covered with forests, this temple is amidst wonderful nature. A nice road from Pune via Chakan exists. Travellers from Mumbai must be careful to choose this road instead of what google map would show exiting from Talegaon toll. The temple is ancient with a great deal of divinity . Pilgrims have to climb down 260 steps to reach the sanctum and climb up. Porters with chairs are available for carrying pilgrims in case of need they can be hired. Thed rice to this temple itself is amazing. It is full of divinity and peace to be here and worshipping Lord Shiva. There are many temples around the main temple. Find some time to cover them also.‬
