From an unassuming little door, it takes you on an incredible journey back to the 2nd world War. No-one can appreciate the scale , bravery and fortitude of the civilian population.

If you are interested in the history of Malta during World War 11 these tunnels bring to life the struggles the people of Malta suffered during over 3,000 bombing raids. Photographs show crowds of people living there and explain the hygiene problems which led to disease. The tunnels highlight why Malta was deservedly awarded the George Cross for the heroic struggle of its people .

Massive achievement showing human resilience.
The size of this shelter is huge. The video screen at one end gives the smallest glimpse as to what life was like here in World War 2.

The price we paid was 2.40 each, which for the experience is well worth the money, there are a few artefacts labelled up, but walking through the open parts of the network of tunnels is a fascinating and sobering experience, it takes about half an hour to see it all and read the Various posters, if you are interested in this era of history I recommend it.

Chilling, emotional and eye opening! Didn't cost a lot to get into and the man on the desk was pleasant. It took about 30 minutes to walk around and was very educational. Worth a visit if you're in the area. The entrance can be found up a few steps just by the big church. Not suitable for those who have issues with confined areas.

We really enjoyed our visit here and for a very reasonable €2.40 each. The gentlemen at the entrance was super friendly and full of information, take the tube to ask questions with home and he'll tell you since little gems and also the personal success about his mothers recollection over WW2.
We spent some an hour here and thought it was great ( we did take our time). Highly recommended. 👍🏻🇲🇹

Whilst it is just a long tunnel with various rooms, we did enjoy the first bit, where the rooms were "themed" and we could find information about the place.

This is literally a hidden gem, well worth a visit. The tunnels are very cheap to visit and the gentleman is very knowledgeable and answered all my questions. The tunnels go right under the town and are so long. You get the history of them as you go round and it really makes you appreciate what the people of the town must have gone through during the war.

Incroyable découverte que ce bunker creusé sous deux églises. Emouvant aussi, mais âme sensible attention, car des gémissements au gré de votre déambulation peuvent vous faire froid dans le dos. En tous cas on ne ressort pas indifférent de ce haut lieu historique, ayant abrité toute une population contre les bombardements allemand. Avec au bout d'un des couloirs un très bon documentaire en noir et blanc, retraçant cette funeste période.

I'm thinking about Covid. How many people are in the shelter at one time? Is it crowded? Masks? Anything else?

I have never seen it busy and this time we used amask as requested. we were there for 3 weeks and flew home an march 12th

Ja, der Eingang ist beschildert allerdings die Zugänge eher weniger. Der Bunker ist ganz in der Nähe bei der Kirche in der Fussgängerzone.

you could literly walk up the hill opposite the underground church very easy stroll say about 11 minutes

Have tried to visit the air raid shelter for the last few years and every time we have gone they have been closed. We are returning again mid November, does anyone know when they are open then. Thanks
