I got there at first and jumped in! it's really hot in there, hotter than other ones I've been in and all the lava monsters are terrible waiters! Barley anyone there which was great fun but it means that i didn't get to splash lava in peoples faces and watch them burn off :( But really i do recommend it! now I get why the monkeys enjoy it so much! :)

This is a beautiful active volcano and we had a very good view of this mountain from our hotel rooftop. When we were there, we could see some smoke billowing from the mountain top and it was off limits for climbing. It still erupts now and then, but nothing very major. Reminds me of Mt. Fuji, minus the snow cap.

Ini adalah pertama kalinya saya melihat dari dekat gunung sinabung. Super awesome! I really like being here. Tapi masalah utamanya adalah kurang nya pengelolaan dai pemerintah untuk pariwisata daerah sini.

There are many places to view the volcano from. There's a hiil park in Berastagi which provides a great view of the area around Sinabung and the volcano

Renting a scooter is by far the easiest option. There is a place next to the Sibayak Cafe (you cannot miss the gigantic sign) in the centre of Berastagi where you can rent them. By scooter there are two places I recommend you to go to.
First, to the deserted village of Suka Nalu. Photos of the red zone you find online (abandoned school etc) were taken here. From there you can walk along a "road" that is overgrown. In dry season I think you can cross the small river at the end of it, so that you can see the dead forest and lava stream. However, we didn't manage to cross the river due to high water.
Afterwards, ride to the ghost town called Gurukinayan. Here you can see the lava stream and also walk over it for a while. Great up close view of the vulcano as well. I would not recommend trying to walk from the first to the second place, because there are cliffs/small canyons carved out by the lava that you would have to cross and they seemed too treacherous to climb in and out of.
You can also get to the first place by bus. Take the orange "Rio" bus (it brought us pretty close) and walk the last part.

Guess I had sheer bad luck. Started raining heavily as I reached the viewing deck for Mount Sinabung. Heavy rain + Mist rendered visibility to near zero. Could not see the volcano.

gunung yang terletak di tanah karo menjadi terkenal karena erupsi yang tidak henti henti sejak 2010.
gunung yang indah berganti menjadi tandus pada satu sisi yang dilewati oleh awan panas.

Worth the travel , a sight not to be missed!
We were from lake toba heading to brastagi to view the mountain. The journey was long , road is narrow with many sharp corners.
Nevertheless it is worth the journey!
Nice panoramic view.

Is it save to travel now to Medan? What about Mt. Sinabung activity. Is there a probability of cancelling flights?
